Philip walked quickly and had to  \nkeep turning round to see if the others were still following. Philip always did everything in a rush and with a bounce . Paul could run rapidly when he wanted to, but he also liked to walk slowly and watch carefully for birds among the bushes .  \nMary leisurely picked flowers as she wandered haphazardly along the path. They travelled a long way and eventually came to a little wood they had never been to before .  \nPhilip immediately challenged the others to climb to the top of the tallest tree . He started to climb straightaway.  \nPaul looked up and considered thoughtfully before he set out to follow Philip.  \nMary shouted softly up to the boys that she would stay at the bottom to arrange her flowers into a bouquet. When she had finished her arrangement she looked around her .  \nThe trees were tall and majestic reaching out their branches like they were holding hands with each other . They were clothed in green leaves and looked like friends handing out their blossoms like she had handed out the Maths books in class .  \nNothing grew under the leafy trees, but the old dry leaves were randomly scattered on the ground spread thickly around the smooth grey stones .  \nIt was quietly peaceful in the cool shade .  \nIt got near to dusk and Mary called up to the boys to tell them to come down . She heard Paul answer that they were on their way and then there was a piercing shriek and a crashing in the branches . She looked up quickly and saw Philip fall and land heavily in a heap at her feet. He screamed loudly and then burst into tears .  \nPaul came rapidly down the tree and stood gazing at Philip. Mary could see that Philip’s leg was not looking straight and there was blood all over his arm .  \nShe remembered some things she had learnt in school and quickly shouted for Paul to run to the village and get help for a broken leg.  \nPhilip moaned and cried desperately. So Mary reassured him that help was coming.  \nShe took a head scarf from her pocket and wrapped it around his arm to stop the blood. Then she talked to him about all the things they had done at school that day. She hoped that if she talked he would stay calm and forget about the pain a bit.
