guidance note EH71Working with asbestos cement and asbestos insulating board(1996).Itdescribes the properties of asbestos cement (often referred to as AC),andwhere the material can be found. The guidance gives practical advice on thenecessary precautions to prevent exposure to asbestos fibres,or where thisis not reasonably practicable,to reduce exposure to asbestos fibres.Thereare also examples of possible levels of exposure for typical work activities. \n2 The guidance does not apply to work with asbestos insulation, \nasbestos coating, and asbestos insulating board (AIB),which must normallybe carried out by specialist contractors licensed by HSE.The Approved Codeof Practice Work with asbestos insulation, asbestos coating and asbestosinsulating board and the HSE publication HSG189/1 Controlled asbestosstripping techniques for work requiring a licence provide guidance onworking with these materials. \n3 The guidance is aimed at anyone who is liable to control or carry outwork with asbestos cement including employers, contract managers,siteagents,self-employed builders and contractors involved in construction, maintenance, refurbishment and demolition work. \n4 Other guidance published by HSE deals with the most immediate risksfrom asbestos cement:the physical risks of workers falling from or throughfragile asbestos cement sheets during construction, maintenance, \nrefurbishment or demolition. Most asbestos cement sheets will not supporta person's weight.Falls from, and through, fragile roofs are a major
