Having a wide vocabulary is crucial to leading a successful life. Next term we are introducing a programme across the school called ‘Word Aware’which teaches vocabulary to children. Reception children have already been enjoying this vocabulary programme.  \nA key principle of Word Aware, is to have fun with words. By school and families working together we can give our children the best chance to learn words.  \nAs such, we are asking for your support to celebrate World Book Day on Thursday 3rd March when we will hold a Word Parade in our classrooms. Here’s how you can help:  \n1) Please help your child to choose an exciting word and to come dressed as that word. On average, a child needs to hear a word used correctly about 12 times before being able to use it correctly themselves.  \nWe will display your child’s card in the classrooms and corridors as part of a school-wide celebration of wonderful words.  \nIt is not necessary to buy costumes for this event. Some imagination, card and pens can create some really great word costumes. Children will also get a chance to discuss possibilities with their teacher so they may come home with lots of ideas.
