Explains three curriculum pathways and the EBacc subject combination, minimum GCSE study requirements, and how to choose subjects from defined blocks including Spanish and History/Geography. Provides submission deadline dates and the key calendar for options processes and subject calls.","Wootton Park Year 9 into 10 Options Booklet \nDear Parents and Learners, \nWelcome to our Options Booklet. Following their selection of Geography or History last year, we are very much looking forward tailoring our Year 9 learners’ curriculum even more to their preferences and we hope that this process will be both enjoyable and exciting for your son or daughter as they approach the start of their GCSEs. We know that making decisions about next steps in Year 9 can be a challenge and in order to support you, we are providing a number of important resources. \nSupporting the options process: \n1. A pre-recorded Options Parents’ Information Event; \n2. An in person Options Parents’ Information Event; \n3. An online careers education, information, advice and guidance tool; \n4. Personal, social and health education lessons targeted at supporting the options process; \n5. A week of online taster sessions from the 7th March; \n6. One to one meetings with the senior leadership team or tutors to review this year’s successes and support GCSE course selection; and \n7. The opportunity to speak to teachers in the options about the suitability of the course for your son/daughter. \nThe Pathways: \nWe have three bespoke pathways. They all include English, maths, science, Spanish/French and a humanities subject. We recommend the majority of learners take the first (trilogy science and two options) or second pathway (single science and one option) as these contain the English Baccalaureate. We believe it leaves the most options open to our learners in the future; it secures them a broad and balanced curriculum and allows them time to consider their career options in more detail before narrowing their choices. We ask all learners to make their selection to include Spanish unless they are already disapplied. However, we also acknowledge that learners may need a third pathway (where they do not follow a language course) and any learner who wishes to be considered for this pathway should complete the additional element of the online form. \nThe English Baccalaureate (Ebacc): \nThe Government is encouraging learners and schools to take a combination of subjects called the EBacc. The EBacc is not a separate certificate, but it recognises learners who have a combination of English, mathematics, the sciences, geography or history and a language. \nOur GCSE options: \nWe follow a minimum of nine GCSEs. All learners will study: \n􀁸 English Language GCSE and English Literature GCSE; \n􀁸 Maths GCSE; \n􀁸 GCSEs in Science (either Biology, Chemistry and Physics or Trilogy science-a double GCSE); \n􀁸 They will also have two hours of PE. \nIn Option 1, they have already chosen between GCSE Geography and History. \nIn Option 2, we advise that learners continue to study Spanish as a GCSE, though some learners who have studied French can select this option or both Spanish and French. \nIn Option 3 and 4 learners can select from the options listed in each block. \nIn order to select their options, they need to select one subject from each block. They can combine the subjects in anyway they chose but it must include Spanish and History/Geography (this must be the course they have already started) . Please note that these blocks are a starting point. Ifa learner cannot select their preferred options in combination they should indicate that on the form and we will do all we can when writing the timetable to facilitate this if it is at all possible to do so. Please also note, that a course running is dependent of sufficient numbers signing up to it. We cannot guarantee that all the courses will run. \nThe Blocks: \n\n| Block 1 | Block 2 | Block 3 | Block 4 |\n| --- | --- | --- | --- |\n| Spanish | Spanish | Spanish | French |\n| Single Science (minimum grade 5 must be achieved by the end of Year 9) | Geography | History | Geography |\n| Geography | Religious Studies | Sport | History |\n| History | Sport | Psychology | Media |\n| Art | Music | Health and Social Care | Dram","cbCaim650IjHQZxF","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaim650IjHQZxF","pdf",1804850,1,31,"English","en",105,"# Supporting the options process\n# The Pathways\n# The English Baccalaureate (Ebacc)\n# Our GCSE options\n# The Blocks\n# Option forms submission deadline\n# Choosing my subjects - the process and dates for your diary\n# Wootton Park School’s Option Subjects","[{\"question\":\"What support is available for parents and learners during the options process?\",\"answer\":\"The booklet lists a pre-recorded and an in-person Options Parents’ Information Event, an online careers guidance tool, targeted PSHE lessons, a week of online taster sessions, one-to-one meetings, and opportunities to speak to teachers about course suitability.\"},{\"question\":\"How do learners choose GCSE subjects from the pathway and blocks?\",\"answer\":\"Learners select one subject from each block and the combination must include Spanish and History/Geography, matching the course they have already started.
