After a fatal encounter between her mother and a group of men, the young, pouch-bound Wombalong is left orphaned and alone in the silence of the Australian bush. The story explores the sensory world of a wombat, emphasizing her reliance on scent and sound as she navigates the transition from the safety of her mother's pouch to the harsh, unfamiliar reality of her environment following the loss of her her mother breathe sostrangely, calling in pain as she lumbered towards the burrow. \nThen she heard new noises-men running and men cal-ling.And another shot, sounding so loud. Her mother curledon to pouch, although, nearlycovered in hair, she would soon have been following hermother at dawn and dusk:nibbling grass, sipping water, playing to practise fighting, and then snuggling up forwarmth and milk. \nLike all wombats, she could hardly see.Her sense of smellwas very acute, and she would rely on her nose and ears totell her about the world around. Now her ears told hernothing, except danger, for she could not hear her mother. \nShe sniffed at the air outside. The pouch was slack now.She put her head out the side and sniffed again.Wrong","cbCaiqgWPftDyouK","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaiqgWPftDyouK","pdf",3027208,"English","# The Orphaned Wombat\n## A Life in the Pouch\n## The Encounter in the Paddock\n## Sensory Awareness of
