It explains how learners should think like geographers through framed and independent enquiry, including posing questions, collecting and evaluating evidence, and drawing evidenced conclusions. The handbook describes progression across enquiry stages, supports classroom questioning using 7 Ws and an H, and highlights how meta-cognition strengthens future fieldwork and classroom investigations.","GCSE \nWJEC Eduqas GCSE in GEOGRAPHY A \nACCREDITED BY OFQUAL \nTEACHER \nTeaching from 2016 \nVersion2January2019 \nHANDBOOK \nThis Ofqual regulated qualification is not available for candidates in maintained schools and colleges in Wales. \nContents \nAims of WJEC Eduqas GCSE (9-1) in Geography A 2 \nUnderstanding the Assessment Objectives 5 \nDeveloping programmes of study for WJEC Eduqas GCSE (9-1) Geography A 8 \nIntroduction to Component 3 15 \nFAQs for fieldwork in WJEC Eduqas GCSE (9-1) in Geography A 18 \nThe use of mathematics and statistics in geography 21 \nUseful interactive resources 25 \nAims of the WJEC Eduqas GCSE (9-1) Geography A \nThe overarching aims of this qualification are that learners should develop the ability to think‘like a geographer’. That is to say, learners will develop the skills necessary to conduct framed enquiries in the classroom and in the field in order to develop their understanding of specialised geographical concepts and current geographical issues. By following this specification learners will achieve the following objectives. They will develop the ability to think: \n• creatively, for example, by posing questions that relate to geographical processes and concepts that include questioning about spatial pattern and geographical change \n• scientifically by collecting and recording appropriate evidence from a range of sources, including fieldwork, before critically assessing the validity of this evidence and synthesising their findings to reach evidenced conclusions that relate to the initial aim of their enquiry \n• independently by applying geographical knowledge, understanding, skills and approaches appropriately and creatively to real world contexts. In so doing they should appreciate that geography can be ‘messy’, i.e. that real geography does not always match typical or predicted outcomes. \nWJEC Eduqas GCSE (9-1) in Geography A develops an enquiry approach to the study of geographical information, issues and concepts. It is based on the principle that geographical education should enable learners to become critical and reflective thinkers by engaging them actively in the enquiry process. Content is organised around key questions and learners should develop the ability to pose geographical questions of their own. \n\n| | Closed task | Framed enquiry | Independent enquiry |\n| --- | --- | --- | --- |\n| | A task is presented.\u003Cbr>Questions are not explicit. | Enquiry questions are selected by teacher, but are explicit. | Students decide enquiry questions, framed by teacher input. |\n| | Decisions about fieldwork procedure are made by teachers. Students follow instructions. | Methods of representation are open to discussion and choice.
