Each name has an important meaning. \nWe can find all these names in the Bible. Four of them are especially important: \n1. Alpha and Omega--He is the beginning and the end of everything (Revelation 1:8) . Alpha is the first letter of the Greek alphabet and Omega is the last letter. The New Testament was originally written in Greek. When Jesus called himself the alpha and omega, He was saying that He always was and always will be. He said “Before Abraham was, I am.”(John 8:58) \n2. Savior or Saviour--He saves us from the habits ofsinning and the punishment for our sin (Luke 2:11) . In the Garden of Eden, people chose not to obey God. Today all of us sin. Jesus will bring us all back to the Father in peace if we ask Him for forgiveness. We no longer have to be afraid of death (2 Samuel 22:3 and 2 Timothy 1:10) . \n3. Lamb of God (John 1:29) --Before Jesus came, the Jewish leaders (Pharisees) followed hundreds of rules in their religion. They killed thousands of animals so that God would forgive their sin. Ancient Jews once spread blood over the top of their doors to keep death away. (Exodus 12:7 and 13 tell the story.) Jesus took the place of all the animals. He was just one, a lamb. He died once and for all. His rules are more simple than those of other religions. He shed His blood for us. \n4. Servant (Philippians 2:7) --He took the lowest place. He obeyed God so well that jealous men put Him through the worst form of death. He died in a terrible way because He loves all people. He helps us now with anything when we call on Him. \n“Put away all pride [from yourselves... at](from yourselves... at) the right time He will lift you up.”(1 Peter 4:6) Jesus followed this and the Lord raised Him up into Heaven.“Humble thyself in the presence of the Lord,” says one song. And then,“He will lift you up higher and higher.” \nJesus spoke of seven other names. They are what He says about Himself. You can find them in John, the fourth Gospel. \n1. Bread of Life (John Chapter 6, verse 35) --Our bodies must eat food in order to live. Our souls must eat the Bread of Life in order to live. We feed on the Bread when we let Jesus become Lord of our lives. \n2. Good Shepherd (10:11) --He watches out for us wherever we go. We’re like sheep. We’re often weak and stupid. Sheep can roll on their backs and then not be able to move. The shepherd has to put them up on their feet before they can walk. When we’re in great difficulties, Jesus does the same thing for us. We need only to ask Him. \nInsects bore into the noses of sheep and torture them in the spring. Foolish or angry thoughts bore into us. Wolves and other dangerous animals can make sheep panic or run. The shepherd may kill wild animals with his rod or move the flock with his staff.“Thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.”(Psalm 23:4) \n3. Door of the sheep (10:7 and 9) -- “If a man enters in, he shall be saved and shall go in and out and find pasture.” Jesus shows us where to go and what to do. \n4. Light of the world (8:12) --John 1:5 in the New Life Testament says: “The light shines in darkness. The darkness has never been able to put out the light.” Evil and suffering make the world dark.
