After the nationa l IV fluid s hortage that i mpacted a ll medica l centers , our depart ment is bac k to fu ll st ride with a ll e lements of our prog ra m . The c li nica l activity withi n the depart ment as we ll as the enti re hea lth syste m is at record b rea king leve ls and a llows us to care for an enormous num ber of patients i n need. So many people are critica l to ma ki ng this happen and function i n g reat sync h ro ny to a llow this large mac hi ne to operate smoothly . I often marve l at how many people must touc h a si ngle patient encounter and how we ll our Ot o la ry ng o logy family functions . I cou ld not be more proud.  \nI n this issue , you will fi nd a section describi ng our new and officia l Center for Sme ll & Taste Disorders . This is the creative product of D rs . Steve Mun ger and Jose Matt os . Like heari ng loss or nasa l o bst ruction , the gradua l progression of loss of o lfaction can be easily over loo ked yet have a profound i mpact on qua lity of life . The new center will s hi ne a light on this u biquitous pro ble m and ai m to produce meani ngfu l c li nica l researc h for it. I a lso found it particu lar ly i nteresti ng to read the hig hlig ht of a lu m nus Steve Ba kos and his co m ment that the resident ret reat was one of the most meani ngfu l and enjoya ble ti mes of residency . Creati ng a c lose friends hip and supportive bond amongst the residents and fe llows i s a priority for us and leads to a better cu lture and learni ng envi ron ment. Kudos to D r . Matt os , D r .
