There have been a num ber ofi nteresting deve lopments withi n the depart ment and across grounds over the last six months . So me have reac hed nationa l news but a llow me to review and reflect.  \nThere has been a res et at the University leaders hip leve l that i nc ludes the appoi nt ments of new BOV mem bers , the president , hea lth syste m EV P , Sc hoo l of Medici ne i nteri m Dean , with ongoi ng searc hes for the university provost and medica l center CEO . We have just named the new c hai rs of Anesthesia and Neurosurgery , two depart ments that co lla borate with us often . I n my experience , c hange is usua lly tough but ends we ll and for the better . There are opportunities now to revisit so me major po licies between the University and Hea lth Syste m , w hic h have been i n place for decades and are complex . I loo k forward toseei ng this th rough as it i mpacts this depart ment i n meani ngfu l ways .  \nOur two newest facu lty mem bers are u p and runni ng! Nicole Fowler i s the new c hief of the division of Head & Nec k Surgery , comi ng to us fro m Case Western i n Cleve land. Her leaders hip , surgica l s kills , and endless opti mis m are energizi ng to us a ll. Hospita l leaders hip has quic kly recognized her st rongatt ributes and I loo k forward to seei ng the growth of this i mportant division . Fro m the H & N division , Eric Dowling will be headi ng bac k ho me to the Midwest later this year . We ar e so gratefu l for th e i nva lua ble cont ributions he has made to our depart ment. He em bodies endless grit and stami na and will be sore ly missed. Vusala Snyder is our thi rd Facia l Plastic Surgery facu lty mem ber and s he has hit her fu ll st ride very quic kly . She b ri ngs a we ll-rounded s kill s et , deep maturity , and enormous wor k ethic . I have no dou bt s he will quic kly p rove to be a terrific ro le mode l for our younger t rai nees .
