It challenges the conventional idea of heaven as a list of requirements, instead emphasizing that eternal life is a continuous, present reality that begins with baptism and continues through faith and participation in the Church. The text provides a structured framework for study, including key scriptural passages from the Gospels of John, Matthew, and Luke, and encourages readers to reflect on how their faith in God's Kingdom translates into current actions. The resource is designed for parish ministry, focusing on the integration of spiritual understanding with daily living, and serves as a guide for deeper theological engagement with the teachings of the Orthodox Church. By examining parables and specific biblical declarations, the document facilitates a practical, contemplative approach to understanding the transition of the soul from earthly existence to the eternal life promised by Christ.",{"@graph":69,"@context":122},[70,84,105],{"@type":71,"itemListElement":72},"BreadcrumbList",[73,77,79,82],{"item":74,"name":75,"@type":76,"position":8},"https://docshare.wps.com","Home","ListItem",{"item":78,"name":9,"@type":76,"position":14},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/",{"item":80,"name":45,"@type":76,"position":81},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/religion-spirituality/",3,{"item":83,"name":65,"@type":76,"position":19},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/what-jesus-says-about-eternal-life-part-3-study-guide/390474/",{"url":83,"name":65,"@type":85,"image":86,"author":91,"headline":65,"publisher":94,"fileFormat":97,"inLanguage":63,"description":67,"dateModified":98,"datePublished":99,"encodingFormat":97,"isAccessibleForFree":100,"interactionStatistic":101},"DigitalDocument",{"url":87,"@type":88,"width":89,"height":90},"https://docshare.wps.com/thumbnails/what-jesus-says-about-eternal-life-part-3-study-guide/390474.png","ImageObject",300,407,{"name":92,"@type":93},"Rowan","Person",{"url":74,"name":95,"@type":96},"DocShare","Organization","application/pdf","2026-10-14","2026-09-25",true,{"@type":102,"interactionType":103,"userInteractionCount":34},"InteractionCounter",{"@type":104},"ViewAction",{"@type":106,"mainEntity":107},"FAQPage",[108,114,118],{"name":109,"@type":110,"acceptedAnswer":111},"How does Jesus define eternal life according to the text?","Question",{"text":112,"@type":113},"Jesus presents eternal life not as a future destination based on a checklist of requirements, but as a gift that is freely offered and begins in the present moment through faith.","Answer",{"name":115,"@type":110,"acceptedAnswer":116},"What is the significance of the Church in this context?",{"text":117,"@type":113},"The Church is described as the worshipping community where the life of the eternal Kingdom is already fully present, serving as a venue where believers can live out this eternal life now.",{"name":119,"@type":110,"acceptedAnswer":120},"How should believers view the concept of death?",{"text":121,"@type":113},"The document redefines death not as the end of life, but as a transition—the parting of the soul from the body—functioning as a doorway between different rooms of life.","https://schema.org",{"og:url":83,"og:type":124,"og:title":65,"og:site_name":95,"og:description":67},"article",{"robots":126,"canonical":83},"index,follow",{"doc_id":128,"site_id":62},390474,1790813644,{"code":4,"msg":5,"data":131},{"doc_id":128,"user_id":132,"nickname":92,"user_avatar":133,"doc_module":4,"category_id":44,"category_name":45,"doc_title":65,"doc_description":67,"doc_content":134,"file_id":135,"file_url":136,"file_type":137,"file_size":138,"view_count":34,"is_deleted":4,"is_public":8,"is_downloadable":8,"audit_status":8,"page_count":14,"language":139,"language_code":63,"site_id":62,"html_lang":63,"table_of_contents":140,"faqs":141,"seo_title":142,"seo_description":67,"update_tm":143,"read_time":24},1099514067415,"https://ap-avatar.wpscdn.com/avatar/100002539d78ffe74a7?x-image-process=image/resize,m_fixed,w_180,h_180&k=1779092875211072502","3 • WHAT JESUS SAYS ABOUT ETERNAL LIFE \nIt is not uncommon to hear people talking about“getting into heaven” or enquiring as to what they must do in order to enter therein – as if a specific checklist of “step-by-step requirements” were readily available. \nOur Lord doesn’t speak about “getting into heaven.”He speaks about the gift of “eternal life” that He freely offers to those who believe in Him. \nJesus makes little distinction between life here and now, and life in the hereafter. Eternal life begins now–the path to eternal life is initiated at the moment of baptism, as we“put on Christ” and become members of His Body–and continues forever. While, in the Nicene-Constantinopolitan Creed, we proclaim that the Kingdom of God is eternal and that we anticipate “the life of the world to come,” the life of the eternal Kingdom is already fully present, although not yet fully revealed, in the life of the worshipping community, the Church. \nThe emphasis is on living, now and eternally. In this perspective, what we call “death” is not the end of life; rather,“death” is the parting of the soul from the body, a doorway so to speak from one “room of life” to another, a passing over “from earth to heaven.” \nLook up each of the following passages and write down what Jesus Christ says about eternal life. \nJOHN 3:16 \nMATTHEW 25:34 \nLUKE 10:25-28 \nLUKE 18:18-30 \nJOHN 6:43-51 \nJOHN 6:53-65 \nJOHN 7:6-8 \nJOHN 17:1-3 \nJOHN 10:22-28 \nLIVING THE ETERNAL LIFE OF GOD’S KINGDOM– NOW! \nPutting ourfaith into action \nRead the following parable.
