Key views include top, front, and right side. The document explains two main types—first-angle and third-angle projection—highlighting how their layouts differ by the relative positions of plan, front, and side views. It also outlines core principles using parallel projection lines from a spectator at an infinite distance and describes how reference planes are folded into working drawings.",{"@graph":14,"@context":72},[15,34,55],{"@type":16,"itemListElement":17},"BreadcrumbList",[18,23,27,31],{"item":19,"name":20,"@type":21,"position":22},"https://docshare.wps.com","Home","ListItem",1,{"item":24,"name":25,"@type":21,"position":26},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/","Document",2,{"item":28,"name":29,"@type":21,"position":30},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/exam/","Exam",3,{"item":32,"name":10,"@type":21,"position":33},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/what-is-orthographic-projection-and-its-types/665054/",4,{"url":32,"name":10,"@type":35,"image":36,"author":41,"headline":10,"publisher":44,"fileFormat":47,"inLanguage":8,"description":12,"dateModified":48,"datePublished":49,"encodingFormat":47,"isAccessibleForFree":50,"interactionStatistic":51},"DigitalDocument",{"url":37,"@type":38,"width":39,"height":40},"https://docshare.wps.com/thumbnails/what-is-orthographic-projection-and-its-types/665054.png","ImageObject",300,407,{"name":42,"@type":43},"OKfine","Person",{"url":19,"name":45,"@type":46},"DocShare","Organization","application/pdf","2026-10-30","2026-10-29",true,{"@type":52,"interactionType":53,"userInteractionCount":33},"InteractionCounter",{"@type":54},"ViewAction",{"@type":56,"mainEntity":57},"FAQPage",[58,64,68],{"name":59,"@type":60,"acceptedAnswer":61},"What is orthographic projection and why is it used?","Question",{"text":62,"@type":63},"Orthographic projection represents a 3D object using several related 2D views. Orthographic drawings are also known as multiviews. The most commonly used views are top, front, and right side. What are the 2 types of orthographic projection? \nFirst angle projections and third angle projections are the two main types of orthographic drawing, also referred to as 'working drawings' . The difference between first and third angle projection is in the position of the plan, front and side views. \nPrinciples of Orthographic Projection \nOrthographic Projection is a method of producing dimensioned working drawings or blueprints of 3-D Objects using a series of related 2-D views of the object to communicate the object's length, width and depth. \nThe views are produced by using the fundamental concept of Orthographic Projection-the location of the Spectator (the viewer) . The Spectator is always located at an infinite distance from the object and planes of reference-this means that the lines of sight (projection lines) remain parallel and will project on to a Plane which is perpendicular to the projection lines. \nThe primary views used are called the Elevation, Plan and End Elevation and are produced by projecting an image of the object as viewed by a spectator standing at infinity on to the Planes of Reference which are then folded flat to produce a 2-D drawing. Drawings can be used using one of two methodsFirst Angle Projection (Used in Europe, Asia & Africa) or Third Angle Projection (Used in the USA) . First Angle Projection invloves the projection of the image of the object on to a Plane positioned behind the object while Third Angle projects the image on to a plane located between the object and the spectator. The method of projection alters the layout of the drawing as displayed in the image below. Drawings created using First Angle Projection will have the Plan View located below the elevation and End Elevation positioned on the side opposite the viewing direction (i.e. when viewing the left of the object the view is positioned on the right of the Elevation) while the opposite is the case for Third Angle Projection. \nEXAMPLE OF ORTHOGRAPHIC PROJECTION","cbCaigr50U1wkI5b","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaigr50U1wkI5b","pdf",243600,"English","# WHAT IS ORTHOGRAPHIC PROJECTION AND ITS TYPES?\n## Types of orthographic projection\n## Principles of orthographic projection\n## Primary views and projection methods\n## Example of orthographic projection","[{\"question\":\"What is orthographic projection and why is it used?\",\"answer\":\"Orthographic projection represents a 3D object using several related 2D views.
