\nInnovations \nExamples 2015 – 2020 \nPreface \nSince the official inauguration of Wetsus by our current King Willem Alexander in 2004, some 190 companies and 100 professors/ principle investigators have collaborated in the Wetsus innovation program on the creation of breakthrough science & technology that contributes to solving major societal challengesand strengthens the water technology sector atthe same time. The Wetsus program has led to the creation of some 90 patents and \n27 technologies that were demonstrated at pilot plant scale at least. At the same time, over 700 high impact scientific papers have been published in peer-reviewed journalsand more than 1000 multidisciplinary trained and application-orientated water technology specialists have been educated in the Wetsus program during the 2004-2020 period. \nIn 2015 we published our first innovation book, highlighting a selection of the technologies developed since the start of Wetsus. From 2015 onwards, many new Wetsus innovations have seen the light and this has inspired us to publish this new edition. In this book, a distinction has been made between a) innovations originating from other institutes that have been accelerated by Wetsus, b) current innovations available for application, directly resulting from the Wetsus program and c) innovations from the Wetsus program that are expected to be available on the market in the near future. \nFor all organizations and people connected to our program, the enormous potential the unique Wetsus approach offers for a fairer and more sustainable world, is a source of inspiration to continue our joint innovation mission for the years to come. \nWe are very proud of the outcome of the Wetsus program as presented in this book and thank everybody who has in the past 17 years in whatever way contributed to this remarkable achievement. \ncees buisman & johannes boonstra \nExecutive Board Wetsus \n3 \ntable of contents \nPreface 2 \naccelerated innovations \n1 The Wetsus network as an accelerator for innovation 8 \ncurrent innovations \n2 Recovering phosphate from sludge using magnets 20 \n3 Testing water pipelines using ultrasound 24 \n4 Accurate groundwater flow measurements to efficiently manage \ndrinking water wells 28 \n5 Energy-efficient nitrogen recovery from wastewater 32 \n6 Phosphate recovery from animal manure: closing nutrient cyclesand improving soil health 36 \n7 Energy storage with minimal environmental impact 40 \n8 Improved seawater desalination using innovative membranes \nand smart designs 44 \n9 Smart UV technologies to eliminate micropollutants in drinking \nwater sources 48 \n10 Theoretical models to improve drinking water quality 52 \n11 Rusty granules: the key ingredient for stopping algal blooms \nby reaching extremely low phosphorus concentrations 56 \nfuture innovations \n12 Hollow fiber nanofiltration to remove micropollutants from \ntoilet wastewater 62 \n13 Designing aligned pore membranes for resource recovery 66 \n14 Calcium (bi-) carbonate nanoclusters in water: a key to reduce scaling 70 \n15 Removing sodium to save water for crops 74 \n16 Efficient electrochemical recovery and reuse of phosphate in salty \nwaste waters 78 \nAcknowledgments 82 \naccelerated innovations \n1 \nThe Wetsus network as an accelerator for innovation","cbCaiocQdVK9kKzj","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaiocQdVK9kKzj","pdf",23728042,"English","# Preface\n# accelerated innovations\n## The Wetsus network as an accelerator for innovation\n# current innovations\n## Recovering phosphate from sludge using magnets\n## Testing water pipelines using ultrasound\n## Accurate groundwater flow measurements to efficiently manage drinking water wells\n## Energy-efficient nitrogen recovery from wastewater\n## Phosphate recovery from animal manure: closing nutrient cycles and improving soil health\n## Energy storage with minimal environmental impact\n## Improved seawater desalination using innovative membranes and smart designs\n## Smart UV technologies to eliminate micropollutants in drinking water sources\n## Theoretical models to improve drinking water quality\n## Rusty granules: the key ingredient for stopping algal blooms by reaching extremely low phosphorus concentrations\n# future innovations\n## Hollow fiber nanofiltration to remove micropollutants from toilet wastewater\n## Designing aligned pore membranes for resource recovery\n## Calcium (bi-) carbonate nanoclusters in water: a key to reduce scaling\n## Removing sodium to save water for crops\n## Efficient electrochemical recovery and reuse of phosphate in salty waste waters\n# Acknowledgments","[{\"question\":\"What types of innovations are included in this edition of Wetsus Innovations Examples 2015–2020?\",\"answer\":\"The book separates innovations into three groups: those accelerated from other institutes, current innovations available for application, and future innovations expected to reach the market soon.\"},{\"question\":\"How does the Wetsus program support breakthroughs in water technology?\",\"answer\":\"Through collaboration among companies, professors, and investigators, the program develops technologies, leads to patents, demonstrates solutions at pilot plant scale, and generates peer-reviewed scientific publications.\"},{\"question\":\"What example topics are covered under current innovations?\",\"answer\":\"Current topics include phosphate recovery, testing and managing water pipelines and wells, nitrogen recovery, nutrient-cycle closure, energy storage, desalination improvements, UV treatment for micropollutants, and models for drinking water quality.\"}]","Wetsus - Innovations Examples 2015-2020 - Preface - table of contents | PDF",227]
