The book is presented as a black-and-white softback with a darker new logo direction, and it replaces many prior mechanics with faster single-resolution procedures and more static weapon effects. Make sure your pink glasses are on the beautiful and tight , and prepare for a lovely walk down the nostalgia lane. This article is skub. You can help 1d4chan by expanding it oh , look , a new set of rules with new works of art. You've been out long enough. In 1998 , Bill Clinton tripped over his own member. More importantly , the Warhammer 40 ,000 third edition was released. After two crappy editions , it was Grandpa's current 40k ruleset and memes. The 3 rd edition of Major New Rules should be more orderly than the previous edition , allowing faster gameplay and big battles. At the time , the neck beards weren't exactly sure if they should cry with joy or rage at the fact that Geedubs was dumbed down the game in order to sell more miniatures. Point costs: Point costs across the board were about half. Streamlined gameplay: At its core , the second edition was a run-in game with a lot of uncomfortable. The third edition changed this , and although it was clearly based on the old rule , it differed in almost all aspects. Most modifiers have been abandoned in favor of a faster single resolution: cover (invulnerable save) , movement (6 versatile and dice roll for everything else) , close combat (throw a bucket full of bones for the entire unit) etc. Where the dice rolls existed in advance , they will be replaced by static values (sustainable fire has become a Heavy X) . Many rules have been repealed altogether , such as psychology , concealment , overwatch or parry. Much less accounting as the lower level of detail meant no more checks , as my flamethrower set this orc on fire , and where does it dissipate? Or where did my scattered rocket frag end up? Or check this table if your falls. If this happens , the scatter roll will die. Weapons: The 3 rd edition presented apes with weapons statistics and universal weapons classes , i.e. rapid fire , assault , etc. The grenades turned into a close combat weapon. Melee: While in the second edition , the melee was basically a mini-game between individual models , as the 3 rd edition unit fights the whole. Inerestingly , the S stats have become very important. Previously , everyone used S stat wielded melee weapons , now everyone used the model S stat. Heroehammer: Characters and especially psykers , the devils have been nerfed hard and can no longer rape a unit of their own (well , most of the time) . Now , their main role has been a melee buff unit. Psykers used to have their own phase of play with spell decks and randomized mana (think Warhammer Fantasy) . The effects of their forces will be more in line with the overall gameplay. Vehicles: Vehicles , for overly complex traffic rules and damage , each of which comes with a unique data table that explained which part went boom in t he way in which to hit. Now they moved more or less like infantry , the penetration of the armor was changed to the main main roll and universal damage tables were introduced. FOC: 3 E gave us a modern FOC-style army organization. Stunning 3 E edit Index Astartes: This series was terrific back then. For the first time , basic 40k knowledge has received an official-ish update for all 18 legions and more. Of course , geedubs being Geedubs , it all went down from there with them publishing a s hitload of crappy HH novels even faster than neck beards could throw their money at them. Doomrider CREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEED!! Army Settings: IA gave your SPESS MEHREENS legionized taste , your Imperial Guard doctrines , The Craftworlds Codex , Forgeworld Books , MUTABLE GENUS... Twas is a good time.
