operate the engine correctly.Check that you have thecorrect Owner's Manual for your engine. \nRead the book carefully before operating or servicingthe engine.Incorrect operation or servicing of the enginecould result in personal injury ormaterial damage as well asdamaging the engine itself. If you do not understand orare uncertain on any operation in this book, contactyour dealer who can explain or demonstrate the proce-dure for you. \nlmportant \nIn this manual and on the engine you will find the followingspecial warning symbols. \nWARNING!Possible danger of personal injury, damage to property or mechanical malfunction ifthe instructions are not followed. \nRead the Owner's Manual. \nBelow is asummary of the risks and safety precautions youshould always observe or carry out when operating orservicing the engine. \nCheck that the warning or information labels onthe engine are always clearly visible.Replacelabels which have been damaged orpainted over. \nAlways turn the engine off before starting serviceprocedures.Avoid burns.Take precautions toavoid hot surfaces and liquids in supply lines andhoses when the engine has been turned off imme-diately prior to starting work on it and it is still hot. \nReinstall all protective parts removed during serv-ice operations before starting work on the engine.Make a point of familiarizing yourself with otherrisk factors, such as rotating parts and hot surfac-es (exhaust manifold,Turbo unit, charge pipe, starter heater etc.). \nApproaching an engine which is operating is asafety risk.Loose clothing or long hair can fastenin rotatingparts and cause serious personalinjury. \nf the service operation requires that the engine isoperating let your Penta authorized dealer carryout the work.If working in proximity of an enginewhich is operating, careless movements or adropped tool can result in personal injury. \nImmobilize the engine by turning off the powersupply to the engine at the main switch (breakers)so it is impossible to start, and lock the switch(breakers)in the OFF position before startingwork.Set up a warning notice at the engine controlpoint or helm. \nEngines with Turbo compressors:Never start theengine without installing the air cleaner(ACL).Therotating compressor parts in the Turbo can causeserious personal injury.Foreign objects enteringthe intake ducts can also cause mechanical dam-age. \nEngines with intake air pre-heating:Never usestarting spray in the air intake.Use of such prod-ucts could result in an explosion in the air intakepipe due to the hot-spot pre-heater.Danger ofpersonal injury. \nDo not open the filler cap for the engine coolant(freshwater cooled engines)when the engine ishot.Steam or hot engine coolant can be ejectedand any pressure in
