The Board of Industrial Relations supervised vote wascounted May 30 in Edmonton. \nDuring the week of April 24,the 890 teachers had rejected aConciliation Board Award by a vote of 89.3 percent. The award dealtwith salaries, allowances for principals and assistant principals, salaries for supervisory staff and coordinators, employer contri-butions to premiums for the Alberta School Employee Benefit Plan andAlberta Blue Cross, and provisions for various kinds of leaves ofabsence(including sick leave). \nThe award provided for increases of approximately 16 percentin total salary costs. Since most settlements in the first quarterof 1975 have been in the area of 19 to 24 percent, the teachersconsidered the award unacceptable. \nThe main items remaining in dispute,in addition to the salary \ngrid,are: \n*principals'allowance: trustees want to eliminate the pro-vision of $2 per high school student which was included in the 1974collective agreement. Its removal would result in a reduction ofsalary for more than 20 principals. \n*allowance for assistant principals: agreements in otherjurisdictions provide a percentage of the allowance for principals, without any regard for the number of assistant principals in theschool. The 1974 EIRSAA agreement stipulated that if there weremore than one assistant principal in a school, they would have toshare the allowance. \n*ASEBP and Blue Cross premiums: the 1974 EIRSAA agreementprovided for board premium contributions to ASEBP only. Most of thecollective agreements in the province provide for board premiumcontribution to Alberta Blue Cross and the Alberta Health Care Planas well as to ASEBP. \nF.J.Ackerman,Representative of the Bargaining Agent for theteachers, reports that mediation efforts in the dispute began Thursday,May 29 and wil1 likely continue in the near future. \nSchool jurisdictions involved are:county of Flagstaff No.29,County of Lamont No.30,county of Leduc No.25,County of MinburnNo.27,county of Vermilion River No.24,Provost School Division No. \n33,and Wainwright School Division No。32. \nSchool Representatives:please draw this to the attention of all staffmembers and post in staff rooms.","cbCaivT2kZEk1AAx","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaivT2kZEk1AAx","pdf",483397,"English","# Vote to strike in Elk Island Region\n## Timing and vote results\n## Details of disputed award items\n## Mediation timeline and school jurisdictions","[{\"question\":\"What vote did Elk Island Region teachers take, and what was the outcome?\",\"answer\":\"Teachers voted by 84.4 percent in favor of strike action.
