Problems of obtaining a viable foothold in theu.S.market due to inadequate understanding of software, distribution, support, and marketing, have thrown the Japanese timetable for penetrating the b.S.market into disarray, the report says. \nbeginning to offer tangible clues to its potential size.Just six years old, theone time basement and garage floor cottage industry taked up $2.36 billion inworldwide sales last year. This year the figure will climb to $3.97 billion. Andby 1991,revenues will exceed $25 billion. These are among the findings of anew report by The Eastern Management Group,a Morris Plains,New Jerseyresearch firm, entitled \"Ten Year Market for Personal Computers.\" \nThe lack of leadership behavior within corporations by data processing executiveis the cause of ineffective information systems management, according to Dr.RobertAlloway of MIT's Centcr for Information Research.Alloway told EDP Weekly that \nthis lack of leadership within the industry as a whole is a positive spark for \ncreativity and technological innovation. But within companies, more leadershipamong information system executives is necessary to accomplish the tasks at hand.Alloway delivered a key presentation at ADAPSO's recent Financial Analysts Meetingin New York City reporting that the need for information systems software isdramatically greater than dp departments report as their backlogs. \nCAD/CAM and business graphics fastest growing computer graphics markets...Thecame from the delivery of CAD turnkey systems,a 39 per cent revenue increaseover 1980. In 1981 large CAD systems sales accounted for 96 per cent of therevenues generated in the turnkey marketplace;by 1986,small systems sales(priced at less than $100k)will capture 12 per cent of the $3.7 billion spent onturnkey systems. \nCONTENTS \nWhite Paper Warns Against \nPremature Rules… ……7New Literature… …….8Govt.Procurements …… .11 \nJAPANESE COMPUTER THRUST \n(Continued from Page 1) \nAt present,Japanese penetration,in allexcept a few low-end products, isnegligible, and it will remain therefor at least the next 5 years. However, the Japanese companies and governmentagencies are aware that they face adifficult uphill struggle. For thenext 5 years, their efforts will befocused on defending themselves againstIBM,while building up their overseasdistribution channels until a newgeneration of information-processingproducts becomes available later inthis decade. \nThese conclusions are based on de-tailed analyses of the strategies ofiajor Japanese vendors and governmentagencies, current R&D projects(includ-ing the 5th Generation,OptoelectronicsSecond-Generation,Integrated Circuits, and software development programs),thedynamics of the Japanese domestic market, and the role that these programs willplay in Japanese product development. The distribution strategies of leadingJapanese vendors in the U.S.,Europe, \nPubliahed byEDP NEWS SERVICES of Waahingtonasubaldlary of INDUSTRY REPORTS INC.7620 Litle River Turnplke,Annandale,Ve.22003 \nEDWARD T.oCONNELL,JR.Publisher \nDANIEL CASOLARO … …EdlorHENRY G.HEFFERNAN,S.J…… ……Asoclato EdltorR.J.0'CONNELL ……… … …Asoclat EdltorT.D.MILLER… … … …Assoelato Edltor \nB.R.LUNCEFORD … … …Associato EdltorBETTY BOBARGE… ………Aamoclate EdltorEDWARD MeCANN… …Aanoclato EdltorMARA JOHNSTON ","cbCaidN4qGNJnX9O","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaidN4qGNJnX9O","pdf",3605168,13,"English","# CONTENTS\n## White Paper Warns Against Premature Rules\n## New Literature\n## Govt.
