And wherever one chooses to start the story is just where you happen to throw your raft into the rapids—that river ran before you and will keep flowing after you.  \nOf course, we are basically a narcissistic lot so when we tell a story we infuse it with our own importance. When I worked at the radio station where I met Billy West, there were disc jockeys there who had played“Layla” so many times they actually started thinking they had something todo with the creation of it.  \nI tell you this because I get a certain amount of credit for discovering Billy—I was the one who heard him on the phone and knew he had to be on the radio. But, I have to tell you, that’s bullshit. That’s kinda like the first sentient human who saw a field of grass taking credit for inventing the color green. Billy was, and is, a talent beyond measure, blessed with adamantium vocal cords and a steel-trap memory that could recall nuance and details from literally thousands of obscure sources and then recombine them into a comedic soufflé that made him one of the handful of true vocal artists. So, if it hadn’t been me, it would’ve been someone else who introduced him to the world.  \nA few things about Billy’s skill set, just to put things into perspective: Billy isn’t the only champion in
