Feel free to take them further \nand make them your own. \nCreated August 2021 in Procreate 5X \nVisualizing data \nCommunicate your research in a way that’s meaningful and engaging by creating graphic data visualizationsto share with the whole class. \nAll you need is an iPad and the following apps: \nProcreate \n Numbers \nEducational Value \nStudents will formulate a research question, gather data, and create an appropriate graph to discover trends and patterns within their dataset. \nStudents will understand the roles of scientific charts and graphic visualizationsin scientific communication. \nStudents use digital technologies and creative processes to aid scientific understanding. \nIn this guide 1 Be the researcher \n2 Drawing a graph \n9 Visualizing your data \n15 Take it further \nBe the researcher 1. \nFormulate your research question \nWhat is it that you’d like to discover or learn?(e.g. Which parts of our school have the most trees?) \nWhat are your variables (the things you are measuring) and how will you measure them? (e.g. Numeric variable: Number of trees, Categorical variable: Zones of the school) \nGather your data \nUse Numbers to document your raw data into a table as you count or measure. \nNumbers \nDrawing a graph \nBars, lines, and pies \nGraphs and charts are a great way to communicate the meaning or trend behind the data, that otherwise would just be a list of numbers that’s hard to understand. \nWork out what kind of data you’re working with and choose what kind of graph you will create. For example, if you’re working with discrete data, you might like to create a bar graph, or a pie chart. If you’re working with continuous data, you might like to create a line graph. \nIN THIS EXAMPLE... \nThe example in this lesson idea will demonstrate a bar graph, but the tools covered can be used to assist you to make any kind of chart or graph. \n2. \nPIE CHART \nBAR GRAPH \nLINE GRAPH \n3. \nCreate a canvas \nIn your Gallery tap the + icon to create a screen-sized canvas. \nTap the wrench icon to open the Actions menu. \nTap Canvas, and toggle on Drawing Guides. \nTap Edit Drawing Guide. \nDrawing Assist \nToggle on Assisted Drawing in the bottom-right corner of the screen. \nThis will act as a ruler so you can draw perfectly straight lines along the direction of the grid vertically and horizontally \nYou can also use the sliders to adjust the size of the grid to best suit your data set, and opacity and thickness so that it is more visible while you’re drawing. \nTap Done to return to your canvas. \n4. \nCHANGE GRID COLOR \nDraw the axes \nSelect the Brush tool and draw an X (horizontal) and Y (vertical) axis. \nTap the two squares in the top right to open the Layers Panel. \nTap the + icon to create a new layer. \nOn this new layer, give your graph a title, and label each axis with your variables so your audience understand what data they are looking at. \n5. \nBRUSHES LAYERS PANEL \n6. \nAdd a scale \nThis show the units of measurement shown on the Y axis. In this example, it shows number of trees in intervals of 2. \nThen add the labels to your Y axis. In this example, this is the areas of the school grounds.","cbCaiu9S9MlmcEZA","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaiu9S9MlmcEZA","pdf",8499149,"English","# Be the researcher\n## Formulate your research question\n## Gather your data\n# Drawing a graph\n## Bars, lines, and pies\n## Create a canvas\n## Draw the axes\n## Add a scale\n# Visualizing your data\n# Take it further","[{\"question\":\"How do students start the lesson when visualizing data?\",\"answer\":\"Students begin by formulating a research question, identifying variables, and planning how each variable will be measured.\"},{\"question\":\"What apps are used in this Procreate lesson idea?\",\"answer\":\"The lesson uses an iPad with Procreate and Numbers.\"},{\"question\":\"How do students create and set up a graph canvas in Procreate?\",\"answer\":\"They create a screen-sized canvas, turn on Drawing Guides, open Edit Drawing Guide, and enable Assisted Drawing for straight lines.\"}]","Visualizing data - Lesson ideas - Using Procreate in the classroom | PDF",1792990581]
