The 1990s saw the emergence of such technological advances as the introduction of DVDs, the first online dating site, the beginning of the mobile web, and the first commercial genetic tests for assessing the risks of certain cancers. It gave the world riot grrrls and the golden era of hip-hop, as well as LEDs, biofuels, and digital photography. Since then, we’ve adapted to search engines, podcasts, streaming services, and large language models feigning intelligence. We’ve marveled at solar sails for spacecraft, celebrated antiretroviral treatments for HIV, sequenced the human genome, drawn and redrawn borders, danced to countless new genres and artists, and worked toward a growing cultural awareness around the multiplicities and varied experiences of race and gender. We’ve witnessed or participated in countless social movements, watched in horror as wildfires burned and storms left devastation in their wake, learned to Zoom, worn masks, and made a lot of soup. We have refused to give up the light inside that moves us, that gives us hope for abetter future, that drives us to share the stories of our lineages and to fight like hell for the world we have right now. And, through it all, Perspectiveson Anarchist Theory has been growing too, carving out a corner of this  \nworld of ideas and actions where these stories and fights can be heard.  \nPerspectives began in 1997, appearing first as a newsletter for supporters of the Institute for Anarchist Studies (IAS), an organization founded by Chuck Morse the previous year as a response to right-wing think tanks. Morse created the IAS to support the development of a more robust and complete body of anarchist ideas capable of influencing mainstream discourse while fostering grassroots activity. The intention was to interject frameworks and models that would contribute to greater liberatory thinking and the creation of a free society. Through a direct form of mutual aid, the IAS solicited funds from donors and redistributed the money to radical thinkers and writers around the world. In this way, the IAS managed to provide material support outside the confines and limitations of academia. While in its early phases, Perspectives acted more as a newsletter, offering organizational updates, interviews with movement luminaries, and notifications of books and events, it has continued from the start this  \ntradition of uplifting the work of anarchist thinkers and organizers while providing opportunities for the publication of anarchist perspectives outside universities.  \nIn 2004, the newsletter merged with The New Formulation, which offered antiauthoritarian reviews of recent radical books. This ushered in a new era of Perspectives, as it grew to include a broader range of content and sought to serve as a touchstone in anarchist intellectual and movement circles. The magazine became a collectively managed endeavor, and, in 2008, that collective reinvigorated the project by incorporating the design work of Josh MacPhee, as well as art from the Justseeds Artists’ Cooperative and printing by Eberhardt Press. This followed the publishing partnership established between the IAS and AK Press, who began distribution of Perspectives in 2006. The result was a beautiful, multifaceted journal that shared the influence of both ideas and visual arts on the movement.  \nWith an eye toward becoming more responsive to the needs and questions of the moment, the editorial collective soon began organizing each issue around a theme, generating calls for submissions through intensive discussions on current events.
