AQA is committed to sharing that experience with its centres so that everyone can benefit. \nThis document is not intended to replace the team of advisers who will remain available to respond to requests for advice, but rather to provide a framework of guidance that will enhance the overall support provided by AQA. \nWe have tried, in the way we have structured this guide, to reflect the chronology of the IRP by addressing these questions: \n• When first launching the IRP, what advice should you give to students regarding their choice of topic? \n• What help can you give to students to move from a suitable topic to a suitable title for the IRP? \n• What can you do – and what can’t you do – at each stage in the preparation of the IRP? \n• What purpose does the title approval form (TAF) serve, how should you complete it and when should you submit it? \n• How can you complete the candidate record form (CRF) in a way that can support and help students? \n• What is best practice when it comes to conducting the IRP section of the speaking test? \nWhere appropriate, we have illustrated general points of advice and guidance with languagespecific case studies and examples. \nChoosing a topic-area for the IRP \nThe topic area chosen for the IRP must be linked to a country, region or community where the target language is the native language or an official language.* It must also be studied in the context of that country, region or community. So, for example, a scientist, fashion designer or film director has to be studied in the context of the target-language country, region or community and can’t be studied in terms of a global context. \n* A list of francophone countries is given in the Appendix. In Spanish the following countries that have links with the Hispanic world but where Spanish is not considered as an official language are not acceptable for the IRP: Falkland Islands, Gibraltar, USA, Philippines. \nStudents should choose a topic/area that interests them. Such topics/areas include, for example, politics, current social issues, sports, the arts, music, media, historical figures, periods or events, regional culture or traditions. Students can choose a work of literature, or a film, provided it is not one of the works they are studying for Paper 2, or they can choose to study a different work of literature or film by the same author or director that they’restudying for Paper 2. Students can take a theme, or an aspect contained in one of the works studied for Paper 2 and research it in greater breadth and detail but in the presentation and discussion there should not be any reference to the Paper 2 book or film. \nThe IRP can be linked to or can arise from a theme or sub-theme in the specification but in such cases, there has to be clear evidence of individual research into material beyond what teachers may ","cbCaih7F94jrTogO","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaih7F94jrTogO","pdf",416234,29,"English","# Introduction\n# Choosing a topic area for the individual research project (IRP)\n# From topic to title\n# What teachers can and can’t do\n# Getting approval for IRP titles\n# The IRP Presentation\n# The IRP discussion and the candidate record form\n# The IRP discussion and aspects of conduct\n# Appendix","[{\"question\":\"What criteria must an IRP topic area meet?\",\"answer\":\"The topic must link to a country, region, or community where the target language is the native or an official language, and it must be studied in that context.\"},{\"question\":\"Can students research using global or general themes instead of a target-language context?\",\"answer\":\"Generic topics without specific content related to the target-language country, region, or community are not appropriate, because they will not attract marks for AO4.\"},{\"question\":\"How should teachers support students during IRP preparation?\",\"answer\":\"Teachers can provide guidance at each preparation stage, but there are明确 limitations on what they can and can’t do.
