This handbook is a resource for students and their parents/guardians which outlines the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) curriculum at Coburg High School across Year 11 and Year 12 to assist in choosing a structured course. \nThis Handbook is designed to assist students and parents to understand the structure of VCE, and has been compiled to enable students to make informed choices when selecting a course of subjects that supports their career aspirations and associated pathways. \nThe Handbook has two sections: \n1. The VCE Program \n2. Description of VCE Subjects \nOur Senior Years curriculum is designed to allow students: \nBreadth and depth of study \nThe flexibility of the VCE encourages all students to take a variety of studies, while providing them with the ability to specialise in a particular area. Students should carefully choose subjects to prepare them for a range of possible career options, and should not choose subjects that may overly restrict their career choices. \nPursue interests and develop talents \nIt is advised students choose subjects they enjoy as they often perform better in these subjects. Beware of choosing subjects based on the impact of scaling in calculating the ATAR. Choosing subjects purely because they are‘scaled up’ is not recommended, and it may \n3 \nactually disadvantage students when they choose studies in which they are not strong in. The choice of subjects may ultimately determine how a student may spend a large proportion of their life and career, therefore they are advised to select subjects that will satisfy a future they are interested in. \nPlan a course to follow a pathways plan \nStudents will be provided with opportunities to develop a Careers Action Plan to assist them in decisions regarding their future career pathways. They are advised to consult with the CHS Careers Advisor to ensure the selections they make are in line with future study opportunities such as university entry requirements. Students will also be allocated a Pathways Counsellor who will assist in course decisions, prior to the official course selection day. \nIn addition to this Handbook, students have been directed towards the following additional [material](material www.vtac.edu.au/publications)[ www.vtac.edu.au/publications](material www.vtac.edu.au/publications) for information about researching courses and prerequisites, scaling, ATAR and CourseSearch. \nNote that in some VCE subjects offered, there are subject levies to cover the cost of consumables used by students in that course of study and these indicative levies are listed for some subjects in the descriptions below. An updated list of levies will be provided before subject selections are finalised. \nSECTION 1: \nTHE VCE PROGRAM \nA V CE program is ideal if you are considering a pathway to university or TAFE. A VCE program is designed tobe undertaken over a minimum period of two years . Each subject offered at VCE is broken up into four semester length units . Most studies offer four units, but students do not necessarily have to take all four units. \nThere are two levels of units within the VCE: \nUNITS 1 AND 2 \nThese are usually taken in the first year of VCEin Year 11. Most students take both un","cbCaim2OeV1eHLdT","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaim2OeV1eHLdT","pdf",5577158,68,"English","# Introduction\n# Section 1: The VCE Program\n## VCAA Requirement for VCE Completion\n## English as an Additional Language Eligibility\n## Satisfactory Completion of Units\n## Calculation of the ATAR\n## Prerequisite Studies\n## Possible Acceleration in a VCE Subject\n## Subject Selection Process\n## Subject Sequences and Pathways\n## Summary Overview of VCE Course Options\n# Section 2: VCE Studies Offered\n## Learning Area Leaders\n## English\n## Humanities\n## Languages\n## Mathematics\n## Health and Physical Education\n## Performing Arts\n## Science\n## Digital Technologies\n## Visual Arts\n## Design and Technologies","[{\"question\":\"How is the VCE program structured for Years 11 and 12?\",\"answer\":\"The VCE program is undertaken over a minimum of two years and each subject is divided into four semester-length units.
