It is widely used by students as a pathway to university. \nStudents must complete at least 16 units to obtain their VCE, including: \n• Three units from the English group, including a Unit 3/4 sequence \n• At least three other sequences of Unit 3 and 4 subjects \nAt Belmont High School, students are expected to study 22 units in total -6 subjects at Year 11 (Units 1 & 2) and 5 subjects at Year 12 (Units 3 & 4) in order to ensure successful completion and the best possible results. Subject selection should be based on the student’s interest, ability and career aspirations. \nVCE Results \nStudents will receive one of the below grades for each unit they are enrolled in: \n\n| Grade | Explanation |\n| --- | --- |\n| Satisfactory (S) | All coursework requirements were met and student displayed satisfactory understanding of the key knowledge and skills |\n| Not Satisfactory\u003Cbr>(N) | Some or all coursework requirements were not met and/or student did not display satisfactory understanding of the key knowledge and skills |\n\nOn successful completion of a Unit 3/4 sequence students will obtain a study score. \nBelow is a breakdown of what percentage of students will obtain different levels of study score in a subject, across the entire state. \n\n| % of students | Get a study score of |\n| --- | --- |\n| 2% | 45 or above |\n| 9% | 40 or above |\n| 26% | 35 or above |\n| 53% | 30 or above |\n| 78% | 25 or above |\n| 93% | 20 or above |\n\nThe highest study score from the English group (English, Language, EAL or Literature); along with the highest 3 other studies will be used to calculate a student ATAR score. Students will also receive 10% of their 5th and 6th highest scoring subjects as a contribution. The maximum number of studies that can contribute to an ATAR score is 6. ATAR is the main form of admission to university from highschool. VET programs can count towards a student’s VCE andATAR score. \nPrerequisite Studies \nBefore selection of VCE studies, students should carefully check the “VICTER” for the prerequisites for Universities and TAFE Colleges. Prerequisite studies are nominated by individual course authorities as subjects / studies which must be satisfactorily completed by all applicants seeking admission to that course.
