This handbook is a resource for students and their parents/guardians which outlines the different streams available for them to study. This handbook will primarily provide information on the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) curriculum at Coburg High School across Year 11 and Year 12 to assist in choosing a structured course; however, the remaining introductory pages will outline the VCE Vocational Major (VCE VM) which is a new stream offered at CHS from 2023 onwards. Please refer to the the separate VCE VM handbook for more detailed information about the program . \n3 \nSTAYING AT SCHOOL FOR YEARS 11 & 12-WHAT \nTO CHOOSE? \nVICTORIAN CERTIFICATE OF EDUCATION (VCE) \nA VCE program is ideal if you are considering a pathway to university or TAFE. A VCE program is designed to be undertaken over a minimum period of two years. Each subject offered at VCE is broken up into four semester length units. Most studies offer four units, but students do not necessarily have to take all four units. \nAssessment \nStudents studying the VCE will have standards based assessment and external examinations, leading to an Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) .(Please see the VCE Stream Handbook if you would \nVICTORIAN CERTIFICATE OF EDUCATION \nVOCATIONAL MAJOR (VCE VM) \nThe Vocational Major is a new program within the VCE and replaces what was previously known as the Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL) . This certificate recognises vocational and applied learning pathways as equal to the VCE but provides a more hands-on option for students in Years 11 and 12. \nStudents who undertake the VCE VM are more likely to be interested in: \n• going on to training at TAFE \n• doing an apprenticeship or traineeship \n• getting a job after completing Year 12. Students studying the VCE VM will also study subjects offered into four semester length units, some which may come from the VCE subject options; however, ALL VCE VM students must study some pre-requisite subjects and at least one VETis certificate as part of their overall course. \nAssessment \nStudents studying the VCE VM will have standards based assessment but will not be required to sit external examinations and will not receive an ATAR. \nVICTORIAN PATHWAYS CERTIFICATE (VPC) \nStudents eligible to study the Victorian Pathways Certificate (VPC) will be notified by the Senior School Team and Careers Advisor as this is a specialised certificate replacing Foundation VCALto support targeted students. \nAssessment \nStudents studying the VPC will have standards based assessment but will not be required to sit external examinations and will not receive an ATAR. \nAs the infographic on the previous page indicates, making a decision can often be difficult for students entering into their final years of schooling. At CHS we believe the best option is for students to stay in education & training; however, ensuring they find a pathway that they find rewarding, engaging and dependent on their career aspirations and style of learning. It’s important to understand that both streams offer viable and credible outcomes for students (NOTE A fully qualified University graduate is equally likely (80%) to be employed ","cbCaiu1X2zVtDwfM","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaiu1X2zVtDwfM","pdf",6255919,72,"English","# Introduction\n## Choosing a Pathway\n# The VCE Program\n## VCAA Requirement for VCE Completion\n## English as an Additional Language Eligibility\n## Satisfactory Completion of Units\n## Calculation of the ATAR\n## Prerequisite Studies\n## Possible Acceleration in a VCE Subject\n## Subject Selection Process\n## Subject Sequences and Pathways\n## Summary Overview of VCE Course Options\n# VCE Studies Offered","[{\"question\":\"What is the difference between a VCE and a VCE Vocational Major (VCE VM)?\",\"answer\":\"A VCE is designed for pathways to university or TAFE and includes external examinations and an ATAR.
