Unit 1 VCE English represents a significant change in approach from Year 10. It is important that you understand what is required of you as a VCE student. This applies especially to English, as it is the ONLY compulsory study in your VCE. \nYou will need to be well organised and have a good work ethic to be successful in English next year. As VCE is a two year certificate, it is important to understand that the skills you are learning this year will underpin your level of achievement in year 12. \nIn order to achieve your best, there are a number of things that you must do over the summer holidays. \n1. Complete the holiday homework task and SUMBIT IT TO THE GENERAL OFFICE (not your class teacher) by Thursday, 28th Jan, 3.30 pm \n2. Familiarise yourself with the detailed course outline provided in this package. \n3. Watch and read the listed texts: Stolen, Triage, The Rugmaker of Mazar-Sherif & In the Name of the Father. \nConditions for successfully passing Year 11 English \n● Demonstrate the skills and knowledge outlined for each outcome as advised by the VCAA Study design. This must be verifiable as the student’s own work. A detailed ‘Learning Schedule’will be made available at the commencement of each area of study. This document outlines mandated tasks and completion of ALL of them is required for the ‘S’. \n● If you fall behind in your classwork and/or homework your parents will also be notified with a letter informing them and you of a potential N result. Also note that your teacher may elect to enroll you into a Wednesday period 3 or 4 Accountability session (ie. A detention!) \nIt is vital that you approach your teacher if you are unsure about any of these regulations. \nSACs \n• School Assessed Coursework (SACs) These are formal, timed assessment tasks tobe completed on a set date. Your reportable grade will be generated exclusively by your performance in these assessments. \n● If you miss a SAC because of illness then a medical certificate MUST be provided. \nVCE English-UNIT 1 \nArea of Study 1 (Reading and Creating Texts): In order to meet this outcome students are to discuss and analyse how texts convey ways of thinking about the characters, ideas and themes. Texts: Stolen written by Jane Harrison and Triage directed by Jim Sheridan. \nArea of Study 2 (Analysing and Presenting Argument): In order to meet this outcome students are to analyse how language features in a variety of media texts are used to persuade an audience. They will then draw on this understanding to construct their own point of view text. \nMid-Year Exam (2 hours): The exam will require each student to construct an analysis of how argument and language features are used in a media text and write a persuasive response to the issue. \nVCE English (UNIT 2) \nArea of Study 1 (Reading and Comparing Texts): In order to meet this outcome students are to explore how context, themes and ideas are presented in a text and then draw on this to compare the two texts. Texts The Rugmaker of Mazar-e-Sharif by Najaf Mazari & Robert Hillman and In the Name of the Father directed by Jim Sheridan \nArea of Study 2 (Analysing and Presenting Argument): In order to meet this Outcome students identify and analyse how argument and language features are used in persuasive texts and draw on this knowledge to construct and present their own point of view. \nEnd-of-year Exam (3 hours): This is a compulsory. Exams are important learning experiences for Units 3 and 4 as they require students to revise and perform in a time limit. \n● A text response essay on either Stolen or Triage \n● A comparative analysis on In the Name of the Father and The Rugmaker of Mazar-e-Sharif \n● A comparative argument and language analysis of unseen texts \nHOLIDAY HOMEWORK-SUMMER \nOver the summer holidays you MUST \n1) Read/watch Stolen, Triage, The Rugmaker of Mazir-Sherif and In the Name of the Fat","cbCailCgTFWMdkRN","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCailCgTFWMdkRN","pdf",435006,"English","# Welcome and Course Expectations\n# Summer Holiday Tasks\n## Reading the Set Texts\n## Handwritten Character Profiles\n## Handwritten Timeline\n# Conditions for Successfully Passing Year 11 English\n# SACs and Assessment Requirements\n# Unit 1 (Reading and Creating Texts)\n## Area of Study 1\n## Area of Study 2\n# Mid-Year Exam\n# Unit 2 (Reading and Comparing Texts)\n## Area of Study 1\n## Area of Study 2\n# End-of-Year Exam","[{\"question\":\"What summer holiday tasks are required for VCE English Units 1 and 2?\",\"answer\":\"Complete the holiday homework and submit it to the General Office by the stated deadline, familiarise yourself with the course outline, and read/watch the listed texts.
