We hope that you have a great year in Year 11 Chemistry. This is a challenging course with considerable assessment requirements. You will need to always keep up to date with the work and seek help from one of the Chemistry teachers when needed. \nAt the end of this booklet is a detailed description of the holiday homework requirements. All homework is due next year. Any late work will be given a NA (Not assessed) . \nIn order to maximize your success in this subject you should focus on the following areas: \n1. Completing all assessment tasks by the due date. \n2. Reading ahead in the textbook to familiarize yourself with the new work. \n3. Accessing the Unit 1 and 2 Chemistry page on Google classroom regularly. \n4. Accessing resources and information on Google Drive and Compass. \n5. Completing all set textbook questions and using the solutions on Google classroom. \n6. Seeking help from your teacher when there is a section of the work that you are not understanding. \n7. Developing good study habits. \n8. Completing past exam papers in preparation for the end of Unit exams. \nIf you have any queries about the course, please contact your teacher at school or by email. \nOn behalf of the Chemistry Study staff, we wish you all the best for your studies next year, \nRegards, \nMr Cheney, Ms Nevins, Ms Bird & Mr Sanders \n\n| NAME OF TEACHER | EMAIL ADDRESS | LOCATION |\n| --- | --- | --- |\n| Mr Cheney | [cheneyj@vermontsc.vic.edu.au](cheneyj@vermontsc.vic.edu.au) | Science office |\n| Ms Nevins | [nevinsa@vermontsc.vicedu.au](nevinsa@vermontsc.vicedu.au) | Senior Student Managers office |\n| Mr Sanders | [sandersm@vermontsc.vic.edu.au](sandersm@vermontsc.vic.edu.au) | Science office |\n| Ms Bird | [birdk@vermontsc.vic.edu.au](birdk@vermontsc.vic.edu.au) | Year 9 Student Managers office |\n\nOUTLINE OF STUDY \nUnit 1 – The big ideas of chemistry: \nArea of study 1: Explaining properties of matter (term 1) \nOutcome: On completion of this unit the student should be able to relate the position of elements in the periodic table to their properties, investigate the structures and properties of metals and ionic compounds, and calculate mole quantities. \nArea of study 2: Materials (term 2) \nOutcome: On completion of this unit the student should be able to use models of structure and bonding to explain the properties and applications of materials, use systematic nomenclature to name organic compounds, and explain how polymers can be designed for a purpose. \nUnit 2 – Environmental chemistry \nArea of study 1: Water (term 3) \nOutcome: On completion of this unit the student w ill focus on the properties of water and the reactions that take place in water \nincluding acid-base and redox reactions Area of study 2: Analytical Chemistry (term 4) \nOutcome: In this area of study, students focus on the use of analytical techniques, both in the laboratory and in the field, to measure the solubility and concentrations of solutes in water, and to analyse water samples for various solutes \nincluding chemical contaminants. \nCoursework Requirements \nFor an assessment task to be marked it must be submitted by the due date. Only very serious circumstances, verified in writing by the student managers, will considered for late submissions. If there is not a good reason for work being late then a NA (not assessed) will be given. \nSatisfactory Requirements \nTo obtain an S for each unit students are to; \n- Satisfactorily complete all assessment tasks And \n- Pass either the exam or average over 40% on the tests \nGOOGLE CLASSROOM-All students are required to regularly access google classroom. Fully worked solutions to the textbook are available as well as solutions to many of the assessment tasks and all resources. \nRequired Materials to be brought to each class \nWriting materials. \nTexts: Heinemann Chemistry 11, 5th Edition Scientific Calcula","cbCaibXf4LGuIMpf","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaibXf4LGuIMpf","pdf",452258,"English","# OUTLINE OF STUDY\n## Unit 1 – The big ideas of chemistry\n## Unit 2 – Environmental chemistry\n# Coursework Requirements\n# Satisfactory Requirements\n# GOOGLE CLASSROOM\n# Required Materials\n# Holiday Homework\n# Log Book Instructions\n# Study Tips for Chemistry!!","[{\"question\":\"What are the key study focus areas for succeeding in Chemistry Units 1 and 2?\",\"answer\":\"Focus on completing assessment tasks by the due date, reading ahead in the textbook, using Google Classroom and Drive resources regularly, finishing set textbook questions with the provided solutions, and seeking help when a concept is unclear.
