Preparing to enter the post-compulsory years of education is a time to think about your talents, interests and abilities across a wide range of areas. \nIt is important to move towards understanding the type of future you imagine for yourselves. Keep your options open as what you think you may want to do today maybe very different from what you want to do in the future. The world of work is rapidly changing, and the sorts of skills you will need in ten or twenty years’ time may be somewhat different from today. \nWhatever you decide to do, always remember that the quality of your relationships is central to a meaningful life – be true to yourself, work hard, pursue your dreams with courage and be kind to each other. \nI encourage you to take every opportunity to seek advice and guidance from your teachers and the staff who have special responsibilities to assist you with your program and subject choices. Mrs Egan, Head of Pathways, is available to you for careers counselling so please take this up. \nIf I can assist you in any way, please don’t hesitate to contact me. \n“May your choices reflect your hopes not your fears.”Nelson Mandela \nCathy Livingston Principal \nThe VCE is a two-year certificate for Years 11 and 12 made up of semester-length units of study. \nThere are many studies available from which to select a program in the VCE. In addition to these studies, students may choose to include Vocational Education and Training (VET) programs or University Enhancement Studies in their completion of the VCE. \nEach VCE Study is made up of four units of work; students may begin most studies at Unit 1, 2 or 3. \nUnits are at two levels: \n• Units 1 and 2, which are the equivalent of Year 11. Students may choose to study one or preferably both units of a study at this level. \n• Units 3 and 4, which are the equivalent of Year 12. Students must study both units of a study as a sequence at this level. \nAdmission to the VCE is dependent on the successful completion of Year 10 in accordance with the College’s Promotion Policy. \nSatisfactory Completion of the VCE \nOver the two VCE years, most students will complete a total of twenty-three units from a range of different VCE studies, including a VCE VET study or University Enhancement study. \nSome of these units will be compulsory but most will be selected in accordance with the student’s interests, abilities and career requirements. \nEach student must undertake all four units of the English Group. At least three of these (including a satisfactory Unit 3 and 4 sequence) must be satisfactorily completed in order to qualify for the VCE. \nThe individual student, in consultation with staff and parents, will decide upon the remaining units. Students should select a program that includes units that meet the above requirements, as well as other units that are appropriate to students' interests, abilities and aspirations for tertiary study, training and employment. \nYear 11 students will select six Unit 1 and 2 sequences (including English) which may lead directly to the corresponding Unit 3 and 4 sequences, as well as a single unit of Religious Education which will be taught across both semesters. \nThe Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL) is a hands-on option for students in Years 11 and 12 which gives them practical work-related experience, while continuing to develop literacy and numeracy skills, as well as personal skills important for post-school life and work. The VCAL is a recognised senior secondary qualification that enables students to continue their schooling through to Year 12 while establishing a career pathway. \nWhereas the VCE is widely used by students as a pathway to university and other tertiary study, those undertaking the VCAL are m","cbCaikpkEOlPr0MU","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaikpkEOlPr0MU","pdf",3676464,108,"English","# VCE and VCAL overview\n## VCE structure and requirements\n## VCAL structure, strands, and VET enrolment\n## Eligibility, sequencing, and guidance for choices","[{\"question\":\"What are the VCE and VCAL options for Years 11 and 12?\",\"answer\":\"The VCE is a two-year certificate made up of semester-length units of study.
