It also outlines where shots are given (doctor’s office and vet clinic) and includes interactive practice stations with pretend syringes and bandage application.","Healthy Pets Healthy Families Coalition  \nSchool Based Educational Presentation  \nTitle: Vaccinations “Shots” for Pets  \nGrade Level : K-2nd grade  \n**Children should have the ‘How to Keep You and Your Pet Healthy’ talk prior to this presentation. **  \nDemonstration – items to gather before talk:  \n• Pens (pretend they are syringes)  \n• Band-Aids  \n• Stuffed animals (dog, cat, horse)  \n• Coloring page activity sheets  \nSpeaker Notes:  \nSlide 1: Title of talk: “Vaccinations ‘Shots’ for Pets”  \nSlide 2 : Do you have a pet?  \nRaise your hand if you have a pet.  \nSlide 3: What kind of pet do you have?  \nGo through naming/identifying each type of animal out loud.  \nDoes anyone have a bird? What is your bird’s name?  \nDoes anyone have a snake? What is your snake’s name? Etc.  \nHow many of you have a dog?  \nHow many of you have a cat?  \nSlide 4: Have you ever had shots?  \nKids needs shots.  \nSome pets needs shots (dogs, cats, horses) .  \nRaise your hand if you have ever had shots.  \nRaise your hand if your pet has ever had shots.  \nSlide 5: Who gets shots?  \nBabies and kids get shots. Puppies and kittens get shots.  \nAdults (mom and dad get shots) . Dogs, cats, horses and other animals gets shots.  \nSlide 6: Why do pets and kids need shots?  \nShots protect you from many bad germs.  \nShots help to protect pets from bad germs.  \nShots help to keep us and our pets healthy.  \nSlide 7: Where do you get shots?  \nYou get shots at a doctor’s office.  \nYour pet gets shots at the vet clinic.  \nSlide 8: Getting shots keeps you and your pets healthy!  \nSometimes when we are sick, we don’t feel well.  \nBut getting our shots helps us to stay healthy and strong.  \nSlide 9: Now let’s practice what we have learned.  \nAt one station, students can use a pen to pretend it is a “shot” and then each give a shot to a stuffed animal on the legs or between the shoulders. After giving the shot they can say,“Now you are protected from bad germs!”.  \nAt a separate station, students can partner up and take turns using a pen to pretend it is a “shot” and then give a shot to their partner gently in the arm. Then a band-aid can be applied to the area.
