We emphasize a structured interview that can be used to examine strengths and weaknesses of individual SRL skills (e.g., goal setting, planning, motivational beliefs, learning strategies, monitoring, reflecting) within a target academic task (e.g., math word problems, writing an essay, studying for a test). The manuscript introduces a menu of evidence-based SRL intervention tactics and uses a case example of a student with a learning disability to illustrate how to systematically connect assessment data to the most pertinent intervention practices. The case example also depicts how to troubleshoot challenges that educators may encounter. Although the manuscript describes these procedures in relation to Individualized Education Plan (IEP) development for students who are eligible for special education services, students in general and gifted education may also benefit from similar practices. Throughout the manuscript, additional readings are highlighted to further empower educators to support students’ SRL. \nKeywords: Self-regulated learning, motivation, learning disability, Individualized Education Plan, microanalysis. \nWhy Assess sRL \nMany students, especially those with specific learning disabilities (SLD) and attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), do not meet expected academic benchmarks (McFarland et al., 2018), which causes long-term challenges for both individuals (e.g., drop-out, limited career choice, and financial struggles) and society (e.g., difficulty filling careers and incarceration) . However, school-based teams consisting of psychologists, teachers, administrators, parents, speech pathologists, social workers, and others play critical roles in addressing academic underachievement. These teams use a variety of assessments to identify special education eligibility, develop Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), inform intervention practices, problem-solve, and monitor progress. \nInsights into Learning Disabilities is published by Learning Disabilities Worldwide (LDW) . Although these measurement techniques yield important information about students’ aptitudes, behaviors, and achievement, we argue that educators could and should also be equipped with innovative assessment tools to measure academic enablers. One such academic enabler is self-regulated learning (SRL), which is a multidimensional construct encompassing several important academic facilitators (e.g., goal setting, planning, holding positive motivational beliefs, using strategies, monitoring, evaluating, identifying perceived reasons for performance, and adapting; Panadero, 2017) . \nEmpirical evidence indicates that SRL facilitates academic achievement in all key academic domains (Dignath & Veenman, 2020; Schunk & Greene, 2017) and across many countries, cultures, and socioeconomic statuses (Callan et al., 2017) even when controlling other important predictors such as cognitive ability, SES, and personality (Callan et al., 2017; Caprara et al., 2011) .
