Anyone, regardless of age or country, can become infected. TB disease can almost always be cured with medicine, but treatment must be taken as health workers instruct. TB is caused by a germ that usually affects the lungs and spreads through the air when infected people cough or sneeze. Common symptoms include long-lasting cough, fever, tiredness, weight loss, night sweats, reduced appetite, and occasional coughing of blood.","Understanding Tuberculosis \nEnglish Health \nCopyright © 2002, SIL International \nYou may not use this work for commercial purposes. Many people die every year from this disease. If we understand more about TB, we can successfully prevent the spread of this disease. \nAnyone can get TB! Men, women, boys, girls, and even babies can be infected with this disease. People from every country of the world can get TB. Both rich people and poor people can get TB. \nThere is good news for people with TB disease! TB disease can almost always be cured with medicine. But the medicine must be taken asthe health worker tells you. \nTB is a serious illness caused by a germ (seed of disease) called tubercle baccillus. This germ can only be seen with a microscope. The TB germ can attack any part of your body, but it usually attacks the lungs. This germ lives inside the body and later develops into the TB disease. \nTB is spread through the air from one person to another. The germs are put into the air when a person with TB disease coughs or sneezes. People nearby breathe in these germs and then they can become infected with TB. When a person breathes in TB germs, the germs can settle in the lungs and begin to grow. \nPeople with the TB disease may have some or all of the following symptoms: \n• A cough that lasts a long time \n• Fever \n• Constant tiredness \n• Weight loss \n• Night sweats \n• Decreased appetite \n• Coughing up blood (occasionally) \nPeople with symptoms of TB need to go the health worker and have a sputum test. Sputum is phlegm from deep inside the lungs. A person with the TB disease has many germs in his sputum. When the health worker looks at the sputum with the microscope, he can see these germs. Even people with mild symptoms should be tested. They may be spreading their germs to others without even knowing that they have TB.","cbCaikSJtaVIwTx4","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaikSJtaVIwTx4","pdf",1533544,1,29,"English","en",105,"# What Is Tuberculosis\n## Who Can Get TB\n## Why Understanding TB Matters\n# TB Causes and Where It Affects the Body\n# How TB Spreads\n# Symptoms of TB Disease\n# TB Testing with Sputum Microscopy","[{\"question\":\"Can anyone get tuberculosis (TB)?\",\"answer\":\"Yes.
