A score percentile represents the percentage of scores that are equal to or below a specific score within a given sample group. For example, if the 75th percentile SAT score for incoming freshmen is 1400, it signifies that 75% of students scored 1400 or lower, while the remaining 25% scored above 1400. The document uses a visual representation and an example related to a 'Really Prestigious School' to illustrate how percentile scores are interpreted in college admissions. It clarifies that the 25th percentile indicates the score at which 25% of individuals scored below, and conversely, 75% scored above. Similarly, the 75th percentile indicates the score at which 75% scored below, and 25% scored above. This understanding is crucial for students evaluating their test performance in relation to specific institutions or programs. The document aims to demystify score percentiles, making them easily understandable for test-takers and those involved in academic admissions and evaluations.",{"@graph":69,"@context":123},[70,84,106],{"@type":71,"itemListElement":72},"BreadcrumbList",[73,77,79,82],{"item":74,"name":75,"@type":76,"position":8},"https://docshare.wps.com","Home","ListItem",{"item":78,"name":9,"@type":76,"position":14},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/",{"item":80,"name":20,"@type":76,"position":81},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/exam/",3,{"item":83,"name":65,"@type":76,"position":19},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/understanding-score-percentiles-roells-percentile/267613/",{"url":83,"name":65,"@type":85,"image":86,"author":91,"headline":65,"publisher":94,"fileFormat":97,"inLanguage":63,"description":67,"dateModified":98,"datePublished":99,"encodingFormat":97,"isAccessibleForFree":100,"interactionStatistic":101},"DigitalDocument",{"url":87,"@type":88,"width":89,"height":90},"https://docshare.wps.com/thumbnails/understanding-score-percentiles-roells-percentile/267613.png","ImageObject",300,407,{"name":92,"@type":93},"Aldword","Person",{"url":74,"name":95,"@type":96},"DocShare","Organization","application/pdf","2026-10-27","2026-09-14",true,{"@type":102,"interactionType":103,"userInteractionCount":105},"InteractionCounter",{"@type":104},"ViewAction",18,{"@type":107,"mainEntity":108},"FAQPage",[109,115,119],{"name":110,"@type":111,"acceptedAnswer":112},"What does a score percentile represent?","Question",{"text":113,"@type":114},"A score percentile represents the percentage of scores that are equal to or below a certain score within a given sample.","Answer",{"name":116,"@type":111,"acceptedAnswer":117},"What does the 75th percentile mean in the context of test scores?",{"text":118,"@type":114},"The 75th percentile indicates that 75% of the scores in the sample are at or below that specific score, meaning 25% of scores are above it.",{"name":120,"@type":111,"acceptedAnswer":121},"How are score percentiles used in college admissions?",{"text":122,"@type":114},"Score percentiles are used to understand the performance of incoming freshmen at a particular school. Don't be! If you've gotten back your score report, whether it's for the SAT, GRE, ACT or another standardized test, and you're wondering what that percentage posted front and center on your score report actually means, then here's your explanation. \nScore Percentile Rankings \nOne instance in which you'll be viewing score percentiles is when you look at school rankings to figure out whether or not you even have a shot at getting in your school of choice. Let's say you're looking atthe SAT scores for the Really Prestigious School you're thinking about attending, and you find yourself staring at this information from last year's incoming freshman when you peruse their website: \nReally Prestigious School: \n25th percentile scores for incoming freshmen: 1400 \n75th percentile scores for incoming freshmen: 1570 \nSo, what does that mean? \n25th percentile means that 25% of the accepted students made a 1400 or below on the test. It also means that 75% of the accepted students scored above a 1400. \n75th percentile means that 75% of the accepted students made a 1570 or below on the test and that 25% of the accepted students scored above a 1570. \nBasically, most incoming freshman from this school have scored at least a 1400 and that a quarter of their incoming freshman have scored a 1570 or higher. \n2 of 3 7/2/20, 9:45 PM","cbCaiqfq3yb1gLkg","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaiqfq3yb1gLkg","pdf",334150,"English","# Understanding Score Percentiles\n## Score Percentile Rankings","[{\"question\":\"What does a score percentile represent?\",\"answer\":\"A score percentile represents the percentage of scores that are equal to or below a certain score within a given sample.\"},{\"question\":\"What does the 75th percentile mean in the context of test scores?\",\"answer\":\"The 75th percentile indicates that 75% of the scores in the sample are at or below that specific score, meaning 25% of scores are above it.\"},{\"question\":\"How are score percentiles used in college admissions?\",\"answer\":\"Score percentiles are used to understand the performance of incoming freshmen at a particular school.
