first semester of grad school in a book artsprogram at Columbia College Chicago,I found myselfin the typography section of the school library.I was en-rolled in a letterpress printing course, and was enjoyingit enough to want to expand my basic understandingof typography and the history of the alphabet.Nestledamong the other books,I found a title that grabbedmy attention:Understanding Molecular Typography,by \nH.F.Henderson.Little did Iknow that this book wouldcompletely redirect my course of study for the betterpart of a year, and my approach to writing for a lifetime. \n# Understanding Molecular Typography\n\nFlipping through the book that day in the library,I assumed the chemistry was all metaphor—a methodfor dissecting the shapes of letterforms in a comparativeway.A sucker for charts and diagrams,I took the bookhome.Later that evening, laying on my couch afterdinner with my full attention directed towards whatthis book had to say,I realized how wrong I was.Thiswas a book of hard science that had mistakenly foundits way into an art library. No metaphors here, letters arein fact really molecules. \nNeedless to say, this blew my mind. \nI spent the rest of that year immersed in the study ofmolecular typography.I read and reread Henderson'sbook and tracked down as many other sourc","cbCaik0sK11pjeNH","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaik0sK11pjeNH","pdf",3161884,132,"English","#
