It explains meditation as mindfulness that concentrates attention on a single focus while tuning out distractions, and compares common styles including yoga, Tai Chi, mindfulness, guided, and transcendental meditation. Benefits are outlined for anxiety, focus, sleep, and physical symptoms. IBS May reduce age-related memory loss \nMind wandering \n70% \nof people who meditate say they do not clear their mind completely. \nHowever, This does not mean that meditation isnot effective, as new findings show that a wandering mind can still effectively meditate . \nAfter all it's practice not perfection, and anything is better than nothing! \nWhat did we think? \nAs a group, we decided to record our initial ideas surrounding meditation, before trying guided meditation and recording our feelings both immediately, and a few days after . \nHere's how we got on ... \nLucy \nAge: 20 \nFrom: Newcastle Upon Tyne \nCourse: Neuroscience Bsc \nMyers Briggs: ISFJ \nBefore: I've tried meditation before without much luck but I'm hoping it will help me to feel calm and reflect on my life . \nImmediately after: I managed to stay focused the whole time, and I really enjoyed the use of affirmations with breath work, as it prevented my mind wandering more . I felt a lot calmer than I did before, and more optimistic about the day. \n2 days after: I tried meditation again because I found it really helped me to de-stress, but it only had a short-term benefit to me each time . \nElla \nAge: 19 \nCourse: Neuroscience \nFrom: Sevenoaks, Kent \nBefore: I'm eager to find a way to be more productive as well as get abetter night's sleep, and I'm hopeful that mediation could help. I am already a fan of ASMR so the jump to meditation shouldn't be too far Immediately After: I tried a guided morning meditation, and it was hard to get into it at first but when I did it was relaxing and calmed me down despite the fact I knew I had a busy day ahead. I feel ready to begin a productive day and it definitely calmed me . \nTwo days after: I tried another guided meditation this time before bed and I really feel like this is something I am going to continue with. Instead of scrolling on my phone for hours I can do this short meditation and feel relaxed and ready to sleep. \nApril \nAge: 20 \nFrom: Southampton \nCourse: Neuroscience \nFun fact: I have the same star sign as Lady Gaga \u003C3 \nBefore: I have some experience with meditating and have only found benefits so I'm excited to try anew guided meditation \nImmediately after: I feel refreshed and ready to approach my day, I definitely don't feel as overwhelmed by my to-do list as I have done on days when I haven't meditated \n2 days after: So far I've only found there are long term effects if meditation is carried on a few times a week, I've definitely been sleeping better since doing this, especially when done before bed \nMax \nAge: 20 \nCourse: History \nFrom: Cambridge \nMBTI: ENFP \nBefore: Tried meditation a few times during attempts to get to sleep. Never for mindfulness, but was open minded to this . \nDuring: Meditated first thing in the morning to contrast from previous attempts . Maybe it was placebo, but think it made my day a lot more productive then it otherwise would have been .
