It includes instructions for building an aquarium from a small box using paints, shells or cut-out shapes, plus craft templates. The guide also features a bubble wrap octopus, an egg carton goldfish/turtle idea, and an under-the-sea board game with question cards across six categories. Additional ideas cover star fish cookies with baking steps and a word search challenge.","Under the Sea Week \nFun week with activities exploring all the creatures and habitats under our beautiful seas! Lots of crafty ideas this week. \nMake your own aquarium \nMaterials \n- Small box (shoe box size) \n- Green & Blue paint or paper or tissue paper \n- PVA Glue or Glue gun (please ensure you have adult supervision) \n- Cotton, string or wool \n- Various junk materials to make fish, seaweed or other sea creatures \nHow to make: \n- Make the tank first. Take your box and stand on its side with the opening facing you. Either paint the background and base or stick coloured materials. If you have any shells stick them on. If not cut out shell shapes and stick them on. \n- Using other materials make fish shapes, star fish, jelly fish etc. See below for templates and ideas. \nFish and sea creature templates or just for colouring. \nEgg carton gold fish craft. \nYou need: \n- Egg carton cut up in individual sections \n- Different coloured tissue paper \n- Googly eyes or various coloured pom poms \n- Various colour pipe cleaners \n- Glue \n- paint To make: \n- paint egg carton \n- use tissue paper to make fins and tail \n- stick on googly eyes \n- stick on pipe cleaner for mouth \nEgg carton fish: \nEgg carton turtle: \nCard Coloured turtle: \nPrint template onto card or stick on card. Colour then cut out as shown below. \nBubble Wrap Octopus \nAll you need is some bubble wrap and some paint or some sharpie pens. White paper for the eyes. Use sticky tape or glue to stick eyes and tentacles on. \nStar fish cookies. \nCookie dough ingredients: \no 3 cups flour \no 1 tsp baking soda \no 1/2 tsp salt \no 1 cup soft unsalted butter \no 1 cup granulated sugar \no 1 egg \no A few drops of vanilla essence \no Various colour icing pens to decorate \nHow to make: \n1. Cream butter and sugar together until creamy not grainy \n2. Add egg and continue to mix. \n3. Add vanilla essence \n4. In a separate mixing bowl, sift together flour, baking soda, and salt. Add these dry ingredients to wet ingredients and continue mixing until thoroughly blended. \n5. Form the dough into a large ball and cover completely with plastic wrap . \n6. For best results put dough in the refrigerator for at least 6 hours (or overnight if you have time) . Check to see if the dough is firm . \n7. When dough is ready pre heat oven to 160C and prepare a baking tray with baking paper. \n8. Allow dough to come to room temp and then on a floured service roll out dough. \n9. When you have cut out star shapes place on baking tray. \n10. Cook for 8 to 10 mins. Check cookies are cooked before removing and placing on a wire rack to cool. Leave them at least 10 mins. (When putting into oven please get help from an adult. ) \n11. Once cool decorate with icing. \nUnder the Sea Board Game \nUsing card or cardboard make a board game board similar to this one. This is just an \nexample you can make it as you want it. Also make under the sea themed counters to use. \nMake cards with questions in 6 categories. \n1. What \n2. Who \n3. Where \n4. Why \n5. How \n6. When \nOn the card you will need a question: What do blue whales eat? \nThe answer: Krill, small, shrimp-like crustaceans that grow to about six centimetres. \nAnd how many spaces the person moves forward: Move 2 spaces forward. \nIf you want to make it more interesting you can use different levels of difficulty, with different coloured cards, e.g. yellow is easier and you only move 1 space forward and blue cards move 2 space, red cards move 3 spaces. You can decorate the card on the back with sea themed pictures and write “What”,“Who”,“Where” for example. See below. \nYour opponent will read the question to you. If you get it right you move forward if not you stay where you are. \nSee how many questions you can think up yourself and if you know the answer just pop that in or research it. If you have any factual books about the sea, oceans or sea creatures, look through to find questions and answers.
