DESIGN BY J.RENUKA\n\nBonnie and I have been blessed to share our family life withRenuka. We first met her in 1994 as a 13 year old studentat our school in Hyderabad,India. She and her sister,Malleshwari, began giving us beautiful drawings calledmuggulu. \nMuggulu is a popular art form in south India.Using colorfulpowders, women decorate courtyards, patios and entranceswith designs.Students often draw and color them on paperfor fun,or art projects, and many have been given to us asgifts. When Renuka visited us in America, she created adesign that incorporates the symbols of Christianity,Hinduism and Islam. \nA popular and powerful slogan among our students is“Godis One”.Despite a world which seems full of contrasts, contradictions, opposites, paradoxes and differences thereare people who yearn for harmony, unity, togetherness.Renuka's cover captures that spirit. \n\n| |\n| --- |\n\n# ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS\n\nBert Clough was my English teacher at The NorthfieldMount Hermon School.Life in a boys'prep school in the1960s was very macho and sports oriented.Quiteunconventional, very much against the tide,Mr.Cloughtaught us poetry, dared us to think and to feel,to pourpassion into words and let them come alive. His love oflanguage and affirmation of a struggling student aredebts I try to repay daily. \nWhen I was broke,my mother accepted my poems asworthy and precious gifts, the ultimate affirmation. \nBonnie is forever my balance as I deal with extremes ofopposites, contrasts, contradiction and paradox;and alongwith our children,Camaron and Aaron, has spent endlesshours listening to drafts of poems. \nThe people at The Greenfield Hill Congregational Churchof Fairfield and The First Baptist Church of Pittsfieldwelcomed each poetic effort in sermon, newsletter andSunday bulletin with patience and endurance. \nIt is always a delight to see a poem in print.Variouspoems have appeared in The Compendium,The BerkshireReview(1996 and 1997),my book Death Is Defeated, andseveral anthologies:Beginnings,Treasured Poems ofAmerica,Between the Quotes,American Poetry Annual. \nKerri Carubia, daughter of famed FOCI photographer,Dan Carubia, brought Renuka's muggulu to life as a bookcover as our graphic artist. \nSpecial thanks to Aaron, who, with Sagar, undertook allthe responsibilities necessary to bring Two Worlds toprint.Everything from paper to print to editing was hisjob, accomplished 8000 miles away. \nThe next to last verse of“Truth”comes from the hymn“Once to Every Man and Nation”,based on the poem byJames Russell Lowell. \n# TABLE
