The kit includes a 4-liter Go-Lytely bottle filled with powdered medication. \nFive days before your exam \nDo not take Metamucil, Benefiber, Imodium, or Pepto-Bismol. Do not use these medications again until after your colonoscopy. \nTwo days before your exam \nStart a clear liquid diet. You may have clear (see-through) food and drinks. Do not eat or drink products with red, orange, brown, or purple dye. Do not drink any alcohol. Drink at least 1 cup (8 ounces) of clear liquids every hour until you go to bed. \nExamples of clear liquid foods and drinks: \n• Foods: broth, popsicles (without fruit/yogurt), Jell-O®/gelatin (lemon, lime) \n• Drinks: Japple or white grape juice with no pulp, ginger ale, sports drinks, clear soda, flavored water, tea/coffee (no cream/milk) \n• Other: clear hard candy, like Life Savers® , and clear gummy candy \nAt 3 p.m . prepare your Go-Lytely. \nAdd 1 gallon of water to your first Go-Lytely. Shake the bottle until the powder dissolves and put it in your refrigerator. It will taste better when cold. \nAt 4 p.m. start drinking your Go-Lytely. \nDrink 2 or 3 cups every hour until midnight,(12 a.m.) . You should finish this bottle. \nThe Go-Lytely will help empty your colon. This helps your doctor see more clearly inside your colon when doing this test. \nTip: Sip your Go-Lytely slowly if you start to feel sick to your stomach. \nDay before the colonoscopy \nDrink only clear liquids such as broth, popsicles, Jell-o, apple juice, clear soda, flavored water, and clear sports drinks. Do not eat or drink products with red, orange, brown, or purple dye. You may drink black coffee or tea (without creamer or milk) . Do not eat solid food or milk products. \nAt 4 p.m. prepare the Go-Lytely. \n1. Fill the second Go-Lytely bottle with water as shown in the prep instruction sheet in the kit. At this point, you should have finished the first Go-Lytely bottle. You can now throw it away if so. \n2. Shake the bottle until all powder is dissolved. You may add a clear juice like apple or white grape juice or a flavor packet (no red, orange, purple, brown, or pink) to help with the taste. \nWhen drinking Go-Lytely, you should expect: \n•To have diarrhea and poop (it is recommended to be near a bathroom) . \n•To feel gassy and have cramps. \n3. Put the bottle in the refrigerator. The mixture is easier to drink when it is cold. \nAt 5 p.m. drink half the Go-Lytely. \n1. Shake the bottle to make sure all the powder is dissolved. \n2. Drink an 8-ounce glass every 10 minutes until you have finished half of the bottle (64 ounces or \n2 liters) . There is a halfway mark on the bottle. \n3. Place the half-empty bottle back in the refrigerator. \n4. Continue your clear liquid diet overnight. \nThe morning of your colonoscopy appointment \n1. No smoking, vaping, or eating (no gum, mints, or candy) . \n2. Shake the Go-Lytely to dissolve all powder. \n3. Drink the rest of the Go-Lytely in an 8-ounce glass every 10 minutes for a total of \n8 glasses (64 ounces or 2 liters) . \n4. After you finish the Go-lytely, drink two 8-ounce glasses of water in the next 30 minutes. \nHourly mixture guide \nUse the chart below as a guide for when to drink the Go-Lytely based on your appointment time. \nHELPFUL HINTS \nDrink the Go-Lytely quickly. This helps the medicine work better to clean your colon. Do not eat any solids the day of your procedure, or we will have to reschedule your appointment. \n\n| FO","cbCaii24FpMDYlRN","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaii24FpMDYlRN","pdf",72767,"English","# Getting your supplies ready\n# Five days before your exam\n# Two days before your exam\n## Clear liquid diet rules\n## Go-Lytely dosing schedule\n# Day before the colonoscopy\n# The morning of your colonoscopy appointment\n# Hourly mixture guide\n# How to know when you are ready for your colonoscopy","[{\"question\":\"What medications should be avoided before a colonoscopy?\",\"answer\":\"Do not take Metamucil, Benefiber, Imodium, or Pepto-Bismol.
