\n…………55 \nLife in the Church……………………………………… \nForeword to the St.Luke's ChapelPapers on Renewal \nby The Right Reverend Daniel Corrigan,D.D. \nRenewal is a word heard everywhere today,—a word whichalso appears in statements of purpose issued by ecclesiasticalgroups and by a wide variety of public and private organizations. The social structures we now live and work within, which deeplyinfluence our personal interior structures of thought, feeling andpatterns of action were largely developed in response to anagrarian or industrial environment. These adjectives no longerdescribe the world in which we live and move and have our being. Therefore ways of living and working, methods of thinking andoperating once apt and appropriate fail to produce the resultsonce counted on even when animated by fine spirit and motivatedby the best intentions.Men and women of good will are puzzled, disappointed, often paralyzed and frequently overly defensive oraggressive. \nJust because the gap between organizational structures and thepresent demands and possibilities is so wide a renewed life formen and their institutions requires that men and women every-where open themselves to perceive our true situation, imaginerelationships which would be now workable, let go of ways andattitudes which can only frustrate, and devise the structures whichwould enable us to live with renewed efficiency and confidence. \nThe efforts of men to perform just these needed ereative actscan now be widely observed at every level of society and in everysociety it is also possible to discern some happy, encouraging, door opening and releasing responses to their efforts.Repentancewhereby we are able to rethink and turn, and faith whereby we \ncontinue to believe all the promises of God are phenomena whichcontinue to appear in individuals. But confidence can only persistwhen our lives and societies coincide with these interior graces, for these are mutually interdependent. \nIt is a privilege to introduce this record of a noble congregation'slabor to be born again.Reading the lines and between the linesit is possible to discern all the history of past success, the patentgood will, the present confusion and frustration and the braveeffort to rethink, the strong will to change that marks the presentlife of God's people as they respond to the shaping Hand of Himwho is making all things new. \n1 \n# I.What is a Christian?\n\nDuring the years of our life in this world, each of us manytimes over comes to the question,“Who am I?”Faced with thisquestion we also want to know what we should do,and how weshould think about ourselves and God.There are times when thesequestions can lead to a new discovery;or it can be a time of deep-ening and enrichment of what we already are sure of.In any case, the end in view is the consecration of life to the deepest purpose, and by this consecration there comes a renewal of our lives. \nWho are we?Before all else we are living beings who aremembers of the human race.If there is to be a renewal for each ofus we must “join the human race”.It would seem that this issomething we could not avoid, but there are all sorts of ways ofdenying this truth about ourselves, that we are members one ofanother, and as such we belong t","cbCaic7ECeb0U9G5","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaic7ECeb0U9G5","pdf",3491441,68,"English","# Foreword\n##
