Most drive axle wheel hubs have a center axle nut that must be torqued down onto the axle shaft to a specific torque value. Putting the proper torque on the center axle nut sets the preload for the bearing and keeps the bearing from separating while in operation. The torque specification for this center axle nut is critical to performance and function of the wheel hub. \nThe wheel hub mounting bolt torque specification also provides a secure fit for the wheel hub and provides proper seating of the wheel hub to knuckle attachment. Improper torque can lead to wheel hub movement and allow potential damage to the wheel hub and surrounding components. Be sure knuckle is clean from rust and debris before hub replacement. \nThe tire lug nuts should also be properly torqued to secure the wheel to the wheel hub. Improper torque can warp the rotor and adversely affect the surrounding components, including the wheel hub. Potential loss of wheel or broken wheel studs can occur if torque specification is not correct. \nFor specific mounting instructions, refer to the vehicle manufacturer’s service manual for that model. \n6 \nSection 1 \nAxle Nut torque \n\n| MAKE/\u003Cbr>MODEL | Year | | Axle Nut Front (Ft-lbs/Nm) | Axle Nut Rear (Ft-lbs/Nm) | MAKE/\u003Cbr>MODEL | Year | Axle Nut Front (Ft-lbs/Nm) | Axle Nut Rear (Ft-lbs/Nm) |\n| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |\n| | | | | | | | | |\n| ACURA | | | | | AUDI | | | |\n| 1. 6EL 1997-2000 | | | 134/182 | - | 80...................................... | 1988-1991 | 195/265 | - |\n| 2. 2CL, 2.3CL, 3. 0CL 1997-1999 | | | 181/245 | - | 80 Quattro | 1988-1991 | 195/265 | 236/320 |\n| 2. 5TL 1995-1998 | | | 181/245 | - | 90...................................... | 1988-1991 | 195/265 | - |\n| 3. 2CL 2001-2003 | | | 181/245 | - | | 1992-1995 | 148/200 | [1] |\n| 3. 2TL 1996-2004 | | | 181/245 | - | 90 Quattro | 1988-1991 | 195/265 | 236/320 |\n| 2005-2007 | | | 181/245 | 134/182 | | 1992-1995 | 147/200 [1] | 177/240 |\n| 3. 5RL 1996-2004 | | | 181/245 | - | 100................................... | 1989-1994 | 147/200 [1] | - |\n| 2005-2008 | | | 242/328 | 181/245 | 100 Quattro | 1989-1991 | 147/200 [1] | 147/200 [1] |\n| ILX 1 . 5L, 2. 0L 2013-2015 | | | 133/181 [77] | -","cbCair2hTUamODPN","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCair2hTUamODPN","pdf",487918,"English","# Table of contents\n## Axle nut torque\n## Hub mounting torque\n## Lug nut torque","[{\"question\":\"Why is correct axle nut torque critical for wheel hub performance?\",\"answer\":\"Correct center axle nut torque sets the bearing preload and helps prevent bearing separation during operation.
