Mrs.MarieHogabahn's marriage to Wolf Mc Collum.On Pat'ssixth birthday Wolf,the product of a bar romancebetween a beautiful Cherokee woman and a wild Irishman,took to the rails in search of work.He has notbeen heard of since.Marie took her maiden name andraised the three boys and one girl on her own until heruntimely death in 1917;leaving Pat,Cecil,Herb,andTress alone in the World.The Mc Collum childrenwith the exception of Herb bore the tell tale nose oftheir Cherokee heritage.  \nHerb the oldest child found a job on the NorthwesternRailroad and financially supported his siblings.Patthe next oldest child quit school and cared for hisyounger brother and sister.Pat had completed eightyears of school  \nPat pushed the stroller to the water hole,secured itand left Tress unattended as he and Cecil frolicked inthe water.Like most swimming holes in creeks aswing rope was attached to a tall Oak allowing thenaked bathers to swing out across the hole and thendrop with a plop into the water.\"Wah,Wah\"camefrom the stroller,Tress was unhappy and it was timeto head home and prepare dinner for Herb.  \nCecil stayed in school and Tress attended as soon asshe was old enough.Cecil obtained his high schooldiploma in Missouri.Even with Herb's financial helppaying rent;providing the bare essentials was adifficult task for Pat.Pat and Cecil supplementedtheir food needs each winter by troding the nearbyfields and woods for wild game.  \nA single shot 22 caliber rifle and.410 shotgun werethe tools used to shoot wild game.On most trips therewas one bullet and one shell to bring down theunlucky squirrel,rabbit,grouse or quail they cameacross.On cold winter days following heavy snowfall rabbits could be clubbed in their holes in the snowproviding meat for a month.  \nFollowing Cecil's graduation from High School theMc Collums headed for Iowa.Years later,Tressobtained her high school degree from AbrahamLincoln High School in Iowa.  \nIowa  \nThe move north to Iowa had been
