A great floating tower, the dreaded Devil’s Barnacle, sails towards them. Can they escape the clutches of the Sea Lubbers and their captain, The Aquamancer? \nWhat follows is a simple OSR-inspired adventure and system to describe the wizard’s sea-borne tower. It is designed to be incorporated into your campaign world, using the rules you feel like using. \nYou’ll have to reference the stats for monsters in your rule-system and it’s assumed you’re familiar with concepts like ‘GM’ (Game Master) and ‘D20’ (a twenty sided dice) , or you wouldn’t have gotten this far. \nRolls \nWhen a character has a chance of something, they need to Roll. You can make up your own difficulty thresholds for your players or use the system below. \nAssuming a D20 roll, the following will be the results for an Adventurer who’s had a bit of experience in the situation. Take the result up or down depending on whether the Adventurer is very experienced or has little to no experience. \n● Natural 20: Critical Success! \n● 15-19: Good \n● 7-14: Ok \n● 2-6: Bad \n● Natural 1 : Critical Fail! \nExample: A knight and a thief need to dodge a boulder rolling towards them. Dodging is something a knight doesn’t do much of, but it’s something a thief does a lot of. They need a‘Good Roll’ to avoid the boulder. The thief rolls a 13 (Ok), and as an expert, the result shifts up (to Good) . The thief passes. The knight rolls a 12. Unfortunately, the knight rarely dodges anything, so instead of an Ok Roll, it becomes Bad. The consequences of the thief getting a Good Roll and the knight getting a Bad Roll are now determined. \n2 \n3 \nDamage \nAs Adventurers become more experienced, the danger they’re exposed to will increase. You can make up your own damage or use the system below which caters to whatever health and damage rules you’re using. \n● Low: Threaten 10% of a weak Adventurer’s health. \n● Medium: Threaten 25% of a weak Adventurer’s health. \n● High: Threaten 50% of a weakest Adventurer’s health, so could take the Adventurer out if doubled. \nExample: In a game using Hit Points (hp ) , the party includes a thief and a knight. The thief has 40hp and the knight has 65hp. Therefore, whenever damage is mentioned in the following pages; Low damage is a D4 result (threatening 10% of 40hp ) , Medium damage is a D 10 result (threatening 25% of 40hp ) , and High damage is a D20 (threatening 50% of 40hp, and doubled on a critical) . \n3 \n4 \nExploring the Devil’s Barnacle \nThe Devil’s Barnacle is a water-borne vessel with multiple levels. The crew is made up of workers, guards, apprentice aquamancers, skeletons and six officers including the captain. \nThe Pulley \nA pulley system enables the Sea Lubbers to haul supplies on a platform through the decks. Some decks have a hole for the platform with a crank that can bring the platform up, down or lock it into place. When the adventure begins, the platform is at the level of the Hold. \n4 \n5 \nRandom Events \nRoll a d20 whenever the Adventurers use the stairs. If the result is 11 or over, nothing happens, otherwise refer to the following table for what occurs. \n1. Workers haul a barrel of fish heads from the Hold to the Galley. \n2. A water leak causes the stairs to be difficult terrain. \n3. Encounter a patrol of two guards. \n4. Find an escaped prisoner.
