Fortune favored you, however, and you made your way into the carnival regardless, giving you a day of delight that lifts your heart to this day.  \nYet when you returned from your wonderous day at the carnival, you did not return whole. Something was taken from you. Something you have missed every day of your life.  \nAs the years went by you met others like yourself, others who had lost something important at their own visit to the Witchlight Carnival. Like you, they have not been whole since.  \nNow, sixteen years later, you and your companions return to the Witchlight Carnival with the chance to recover what you lost and just maybe save the Feywild in the process.  \nTruths ofthe Witchlight  \n• The Witchlight Carnival comes to your land only once every eight years. A few days later, it disappears.  \n• The Carnival is said to visit many worlds and rides the edge of the border between the world and the realm of the fey-the Feywild.  \n• A strange corruption is said to have set into the Fey and the borderlands between the realm of the Fey and our world. Some believe it is a collision between these worlds and another.  \n• In the land of the fey, the archfey Zybilna has gone quiet. Those attuned to this patron have not heard from her in more than a year.  \n• Beings from the fey know that within the Feywild, visitors and natives alike best follow the Rule of Reciprocity; the Rule of Hospitality; and the Rule of Ownership.  \n• For unknown reasons, the numbers eight and three have power in the realm of the fey.  \nCampaign Inspiration  \nInspiring fiction for this campaign includes Coraline, The Dark Crystal, Gulliver’s Travels, Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell, Labyrinth, Legend, NeverEnding Story, Pan’s Labyrinth, The Princess Bride, Spirited Away, Stardust, Time Bandits, and the Wizard of Oz.  \nYour Character in the Witchlight  \nPlease follow these guidelines when considering a character for this campaign. We will build characters together during our session zero.  \n• Characters begin at 1st level. We’ll be using Milestone leveling for the campaign.  \n• Use either point-buy or standard arrays for ability scores. You can use the “Customizing Your Origin”feature from Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything toredistribute ability bonuses.  \n• You can choose options from the Player’s Handbook, Xanathar’s Guide to Everything, and Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything. The Peace and Twilight cleric subclasses are not allowed. Please check your sources in D&D Beyond for spells and abilities to ensure they come from these books.  \n• In addition to races from the Player’s Handbook you can choose the Fairy, Firbolg, Harengon, Owlin, Satyr, Tabaxi, and Tortle races. You may also have the Hexblood lineage. Other lineages from Van Richten’s Guide to Ravenoft may become available during the adventure.  \n• In addition to backgrounds from the Player’s Handbook you may choose the Feylost or Witchlight Hand backgrounds from Wild Beyond the Witchlight.  \n• Your character begins with the following motivation: You travel with your companions to seek what you have lost so many years ago in the Witchlight Carnival and restore joy and wonder to the Feywild.  \nSafety Tools  \nThis is a lighthearted campaign with themes of wonder, mischief, and fairy-tale fantasy.
