After the conflict, the mother brings the brothers to a pastor, who uses the allegory of “The Three Rocks” to teach that two-sided effort cannot resolve a dispute without God. Reflection questions guide readers to compare their own recent conflicts to the story.","The War of the Two Brothers \nStacey Hare Anglais \nThe War of the Two Brothers \nAnglais \nLocal \nCopyright © 2023, Kwakum language committee \n[http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/](http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/) \nYou are free to make commercial use of this work. The older brother worked in the ̊elds and had already become a man. As for the younger brother, he started to develop muscles and thought he was a man — but he still only had the wisdom of a child. This combination made him arrogant. He was also arrogant because the young women preferred him to the older brother. Furthermore, the younger brother was attending the local high school, but the older brother never went to the government school. The older brother watched in disgust as his younger brother became increasingly arrogant and disrespectful. \nOne day, the older brother returned from the ̊eldsand saw that his younger brother’s girlfriend had moved into their house.“What?!” he thought,“he has a woman of his own and I am still alone?!” The older brother was hot with jealousy and anger. He had asked three girls to come live with him, but they had all refused. He had no one to cook for him and no one todo his laundry, but now his younger brother had a woman of his own! He was ashamed. Not only did the younger brother have his own woman, but he mocked him for being alone. This made the older brother very angry. \nOne day, the older brother called over his brother’s girlfriend and told her to do his laundry. She hesitated, but the younger brother wasn’t home, so she had no choice. When the younger brother got home and saw his brother’s laundry hanging on the line, he knew what had happened. In front of the whole family, he shouted,“You did NOT ask my girlfriend to do your laundry!!” The older brother looked at him and raised both of his eyebrows (communicating he did do exactly that that) . \nHe yelled back,“I am the older brother and I deserve respect. Your girlfriend here ought to show me the respect that I deserve.” \nThe younger brother strutted over to the clothesline, removed the older brother’s white shirt, threw it on the ground, and stomped on it. As he went to yank down other articles of clothing, the older brother ran over and punched him in the face. The younger brother retaliated with a punch, only to further increase the older brother’s rage. The two boys start ̊ghting one another. Their mother saw what was happening and shrieked. Determined to defend his honor, the older brother saw a 2x4 laying on the ground and started swinging it at the younger brother, hitting him with it. The rest of the family pulled them apart and their mother —who fears God — started to cry. The brothers swore at each other from across the courtyard while their mother cried out,“Lord have mercy!” \nRe̎ection questions: \n1. Describe the con̎ict that you have recently faced. \n2.
