\nJUNE 1988 \nSTRAIGHT AND LEVEL \nCHANGING OF THE GUARD \nby Bob Lickteig \nGetting a divorce or losing a lovedone of umpteen years must feel likethis. \nFor the past five years my job hasbeen like a friend to me,but even oldfriends have to part company sometime. These friends, the members ofEAA and the EAA Antique/Classic Di-vision,will always be remembered byme. \nI had been active in the Antique/Classic Division for a number of yearsand with the resignation of a memberof the Antique/Classic board,I waselected to the office of vice president.I attended one meeting in that capacity, and to my surprise,my predecessor offive years'service resigned and themembers of the board elected me theirpresident. \nI was the new guy on the block withall the responsibility of this importantand demanding position.I learned alot and I learned it quickly. It waseither that or fall on my face, which Idid a few times along the way, too.AsI said,I made good friends, both per-sonal and professional.Over the pastfive years I witnessed the yearlygrowth of your division and stood talland proud that we collectively attained \nthe position of leadership for our eraof aviation.I have been lucky to bepart of this growth and I hope I havecontributed to it. \nMy heart breaks a little at thethought of all the time we have spenttogether investing in each other,de-pending on and always receiving thehelp to solve a problem or attain oneof our goals, the ups and downs wefought together. We won some and welost some.We argued about somethings,we agreed on others—sacrific-ing for each other and putting everyounce of effort and will into makingthings work right and earning a fewmore gray hairs along the way.Do youremember waking in the middle of thenight with an idea and getting up tomake a note of it?At my age,if I didn'tI would not be able to recall it in themorning. This type of effort by volun-teers is what makes America great andexhibits the spirit of EAA. \nThe effort we allput forward for ourAntique/Classic Division participationin the annual EAA convention is a tri-bute to this spirit. We all know the 12to 14 hour days with hundreds of deci-sions and thousands of questions to an-swer,the responsibility we share forthe success of our Antique/Classicgroup events and the wonderful sigh ofrelief when the final curtain comesdown and all the aircraft are headedhome. But —oh,what fun—and thesatisfaction of a job well done. \nI will miss my association with EAAHeadquarters and the working arrange- \nments I have developed with Paul,Tom and their staff. These dedicatedpeople have been supportive of all theprojects and programs requested byyour Antique/Classic board of direc-tors.I have been blessed with a dedi-cated board of officers, directors andadvisors and I wish to thank them againfor their contributions and continuedsupport. \nThe EAA Antique/Classic Divisionis membership-oriented with pro-grams,projects,group participationand our main line of communications—our monthly magazine THE VIN-TAGE AIRPLANE. When youanalyze it,the membership really di-rects your division and that's the wayit should be.If your leadership fulfillsthe needs and desires of our members, your Antique/Classic Division willcontinue to be successful. \nThis June issue of your magazine in-cludes a ballot for the election of theofficers and directors nominated.Ichallenge every member to vote for thecandidate he feels will be the best per-son to continue the objectives of ourdivision. The new officers and direc-tors will be announced and installed atthe EAA Antique/Classic annual busi-ness meeting Friday,August 5,1988. \nI would like to close with an oldsaying—you never leave a place youlove —you take a part of it with you, leaving a part of you behind. \nSo one more time, welcome aboard. \nWe're better together, join us andyou have it all.● \nPUBLICATION STAFF \nPUBLISHERTom PobereznyVICE-PRESIDENTMARKETING &COMMUNICATIONSDick MattEDITORMark PhelpsART DIRECTORMike DrucksMANAGING EDITOR/ADVERTI","cbCaitEXQHAf4Ygi","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaitEXQHAf4Ygi","pdf",8534638,32,"English","# Straight and Level\n## A/C News\n## Letters to the Editor\n## Vintage Literature\n## Members'Projects\n## Calendar\n## Vintage Seaplanes\n## Stinson 108-2\n## Time Capsule\n## Taylorcraftsmanship\n## To Oshkosh via J-3\n## Annual Business Meeting\n## Volunteers: A Book of Heroes\n## Interesting Members\n## Welcome New Members\n## Myster","[{\"question\":\"Who wrote the editorial “Changing of the Guard” and what is its focus?\",\"answer\":\"Bob Lickteig wrote “Changing of the Guard,” reflecting on years of involvement in the EAA Antique/Classic Division and the transition of leadership roles.\"},{\"question\":\"What action is requested from members in the June issue?\",\"answer\":\"Members are challenged to vote for the candidates nominated for officers and directors.\"},{\"question\":\"When will the newly elected officers and directors be announced and installed?\",\"answer\":\"They will be announced and installed at the EAA Antique/Classic annual business meeting on Friday, August 5, 1988.\"}]","THE VINTAGE AIRPLANE - Vol 16 - Changing of the Guard | PDF",1790575485,12]
