Uses a historical and technical perspective shaped by drama-centered church practice, worship and color symbolism training, and library research. considerableinvolvement with drama, especially church-centered drama.Thewhole field of expression of Christian concepts in various art formswas further opened up in the classes of Harry Mason, particularlythose in worship and color symbolism. In the extensive library atAuburn—both when I attended the seminary in upper New YorkState and later when it was moved to Union Seminary in New YorkCity—I read every book I could find on the subject—far too many toacknowledge, and many of them now out of print.Impetus was givento this by the rich resources in the libraries at Princeton TheologicalSeminary and Princeton University while doing part-time teachingin the seminary. \nIt was at Princeton, too, that I met the late Dr.Walter Lowrie, whose interest and advice during several conversations brought thewhole matter into focus. He shared my feeling that to find the ma-terial relevant to our Reformed faith meant doing an amount of read-ing that told the reader more than he wanted to know—historically, technically, and eccleasiastically!Mr.Henry Lee Willet,of the WilletStained Glass Studios in Philadelphia, was also most helpful. \nThe books listed in the Bibliography at the end of this book willbe helpful to those who wish to carry their study much farther thanthis small handbook attempts to do.They are,in the main,a part ofthe present \"mood,\"and much more selective than those read overthe years of preparation for this writing. The chart at the end ofChapter IV appeared originally in the magazine Discovery(July-September,1951). \nDoROTHY B.FRITZ
