FOREWORD\n\nThese meditations grew out of an effort to explain to thepeople I sponsor in Alcoholics Anonymous how the TwelveSteps of A.A.have transformed me.Though I had wanted tocapture and convey the dynamic power of the Steps,I did notanticipate that writing them would advance my own under-standing and growth. As I continued to write, the Steps beganto come alive in a new way for me.Their potential for transfor-mation was activated on an even deeper level for me. \nI feel the result is a fresh look at the Twelve Steps.I havesupplemented my belonging to the fellowship of A.A.andpracticing the Steps with keeping a journal, studying Jungianpsychology, and becoming more aware of the spiritual tradi-tions of world religions.I would imagine all these factors havehad their influence on me. \nEach chapter begins with a brief quotation from the BigBook. In the subsequent meditation,I have tried to describethe internal effect each Step has had on me and what I havelearned. In this way, each chapter is a meditation on thecorresponding Step. \n·The first meditation explores how I am powerless not onlyover alcohol but over other addictive tendencies. \n·In the second meditation I describe my experience of aHigher Power as an inner Presence that strengthens andguides me. \n·In the third meditation I discuss my struggle to turn overmy self-will and enter into a partnership with this innerPresence. \n·In the fourth meditation I take an inventory of my differ-ent forms of selfishness and how they obstruct my rela-tionship with the inner Presence. \n·In the fifth meditation I admit the nature of my wrongs byacknowledging how I have tried to twist my spiritualsearch into a self-satisfying pursuit. \n·In the sixth meditation I begin a dialogue with the DeepSelf in order to overcome my resistance to an innertransformation. \n·The seventh meditation continues this dialogue anddescribes how I adjust to letting the inner Presence havethe initiative in molding my life. \n● In the eighth meditation I realize the correlation betweenthe people I have harmed and my own rejected qualities, and I prepare to become inwardly reconciled. \n● The ninth meditation discloses how this inner reconcilia-tion bears fruit by reconnecting me with other people andwith a new sense of my purpose in life. \n·In the tenth meditation I derive personal signals from myinventory that will help me recognize the different forcestrying to influence me. \n·The eleventh meditation attempts to convey my experi-ence of conscious contact with the inner Presence. \n·And the twelfth meditation describes the path of spiritualawakening brought about by the previous Steps andshows how they have begun to mold me into an agent ofhealing for others. \nIn the course of these reflections, the voices of some interiorguides have emerged. These voices are the result of a longprocess of absorbing and internalizing the wisdom of otherpeople.By listening to others, particularly to my sponsor, the \nhealthy forces that have been at work in these people strike upa reson","cbCaiusILi1U5Ov8","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaiusILi1U5Ov8","pdf",2990563,"English","#
