President Trump praised the move, urging the country to go “full blast” and“make the UK very wealthy again”. \nBut senior government figures suggested that Fahnbulleh was likely to reject calls to approve drilling at the Rosebank oilfield over warnings it would produce seven times the carbon emissions of Jackdaw. \nChancellor: I’ll cut cost of business to boost UK \nBudget will help ‘bloody-minded entrepreneurs’ \nPatrick Maguire \nChief Political Commentator \nThe chancellor has promised that his budget next week will be for “bloodyminded entrepreneurs” as he prepares to cut regulations and “back business in Britain making a profit”. \nInan interview with The Times, John Healey said he was as focused on cutting the “cost of business” as on the cost of living and pledged to use his first fiscal event to repair the frayed relationship between Labour and business. \nHe admitted that firms had been under “alot of pressure”, citing changes to employment law, regulation, higher taxes and strains on global supply chains, some of which were introduced by Sir Keir Starmer’s government. \nSignalling a change in approach, Healey said on a trip to Aberdeenshire:“I want to be a chancellor who backs business in Britain making a profit, and those entrepreneurs who, in the end, are the ones who challenge the status quo, come up with innovative ideas and are trying, some of them through sheer bloody-mindedness, to keep going through these sorts of pressures.” \nHe is expected to use the budget to make cuts to regulation on businesses that one senior Treasury source described as “the sludge choking firms”. Reporting requirements are likely tobe abolished for many smaller enterprises. \nThe chancellor is also likely to pitch some of his biggest decisions on tax squarely at wealth creators. The Times \ndisclosed this week that Healey had ruled out arise in capital gains tax, partly because he feared a chilling effect on business investment. \nHealey gave an impassioned defence of the profit motive in business, saying he wanted the most successful start-ups to remain in Britain.“For the people who startup these businesses, the ones who really thrive and grow, they have to make a profit—and they will be much more inclined to put it back into their own business,” he said. \nHealey said decisions taken by his predecessors to raise taxes on business, such as the increase in national insurance contributions, had been necessary to repair the damage caused by what he described as the Conservatives’ “dereliction of duty” on the economy. \nHe acknowledged, however, that the tax burden on businesses had added to their difficulties.“If you talk to any of the businesses that have come in and have either had one-to-ones or roundtables with me, I have recognised that in recent times there’s been alot of pressure: employment law, regulation, tax, input costs, supply chains,” he said. \nHe was “acutely aware” of business concerns over the rising minimum wage for younger workers, he added. \nGovernment borrowing has risen to its highest level this year and the national debt has exceeded £3trn for the first time. Inflation also rose to 3.5 per cent in September, up from 3.1 per cent in August. \nOne source said it would b","cbCaiuaDbhQ4ALpM","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaiuaDbhQ4ALpM","pdf",34329877,88,"English","# Ministers and drilling licences\n## Jackdaw approval and wider political reaction\n## Rosebank emissions concerns\n# Budget and business regulation\n## Cutting costs and fiscal priorities\n# AI security threat to websites\n## Vulnerability discovery and urgent remediation","[{\"question\":\"Why are ministers unlikely to approve a second fuel drilling licence?\",\"answer\":\"Ministers signal they are unlikely to approve it amid concerns it would breach climate targets.\"},{\"question\":\"What budget direction is attributed to the chancellor regarding business?\",\"answer\":\"The chancellor is described as aiming to cut regulations and the “cost of business,” with reporting requirements potentially reduced for smaller enterprises.\"},{\"question\":\"What is the AI-related cybersecurity issue described in the article?\",\"answer\":\"AI is said to have helped discover a serious security flaw in widely used website software, prompting urgent efforts to fix the vulnerability before hackers act.\"}]","The Times UK - 2210 | PDF",1792708052,222]
