Kythaela addresses Eldrim and gathered children, students, and Mentors as she recounts baffling events from battles with the Remnant five years earlier, when unexplained powers reshaped everything scholars believed. There were children there, snacking on cinnamon toast and laughing as their parents tried to keep them focused. There were students, trying not to be too obvious with their flirting and their games. There were Mentors, sitting primly, trying to look ponderous and wise and almost succeeding. \nThere was life here in the village of Sylrantheas, life and magic and good food and friends. \nThere almost wasn’t. \nThere almost wasn’t any of it. \nKythaela shuddered, clearing her throat as she began the next part of the story. \n“We saw many things during our battles with the Remnant five years ago,” she said, watching as everyone’s eyes returned to her.“Things we did not understand. Magic we did not have rules for. People we did not know existed. The battles that took place back then defied all reason, befuddled the best scholars we have, confused our historians and bested all our mages.“But they did occur. And just as we knew back then that we did not yet understand the powers that were being wielded, we also knew that they \nwere real. \n“And that she would return in five years.” Kythaela looked up at the leaves overhead, faintly orange and flickering. “It has now been five years, almost to the day.” \n“What does it mean?” a little girl piped up, sitting with her back straight on a log. Alleana, her name was. \n“It means,” Kythaela said, jaw held tight as she tried to maintain control,“that the worst is yet to come.” \n“She’s coming back?” Alleana asked. \n“Time will tell,” Kythaela said. “She may indeed return. And if she does, we must be ready for even greater power, for an even greater war. We may not survive what is coming for us, but we must do all we can to try. \n“Now hush. Let me remind you of what came to pass five long years ago, during the time of the great Stone Flame. Let me tell you of the powers that were so incredible, so outlandish, that even now there are none who claim to know the source. \n“Everything I am about to say is true.” \nFIVE YEARS EARLIER \nPHOENIX STOOD in her crow’s nest, watching Shock Crew at work. Boys and girls were running all over the rigging down below, rearranging tents and moving supplies from place to place. It was a standard shuffle—it kept the other Crews guessing. When they came to attack, they wouldn’t know where the valuable stuff was hidden. \nNot tha","cbCaiiqpkuQMq1Wy","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaiiqpkuQMq1Wy","pdf",2690889,459,"English","en",105,"# Part I\n## Chapter 1\n## Chapter 2\n## Chapter 3\n## Chapter 4\n## Chapter 5\n## Chapter 6\n## Chapter 7\n## Chapter 8\n## Chapter 9\n## Chapter 10\n## Chapter 11\n## Chapter 12\n## Chapter 13\n## Chapter 14\n## Chapter 15\n## Chapter 16\n## Chapter 17\n## Chapter 18\n# Part II\n## Chapter 19\n## Chapter 20\n## Chapter 21\n## Chapter 22\n## Chapter 23\n## Chapter 24\n## Chapter 25\n## Chapter 26\n## Chapter 27\n## Chapter 28\n## Chapter 29\n## Chapter 30\n## Chapter 31\n## Chapter 32\n## Chapter 33\n## Chapter 34\n## Chapter 35\n## Chapter 36\n## Chapter 37\n## Chapter 38\n## Chapter 39\n## Chapter 40\n## Chapter 41\n## Chapter 42\n## Chapter 43\n## Chapter 44\n## Chapter 45\n## Chapter 46\n## Chapter 47\n## Chapter 48\n## Chapter 49\n## Chapter 50\n## Chapter 51\n## Chapter 52\n## Chapter 53\n## Chapter 54\n## Chapter 55\n## Chapter 56\n## Chapter 57\n## Chapter 58\n## Chapter 59\n## Chapter 60\n## Chapter 61\n## Chapter 62\n## Chapter 63\n## Chapter 64\n## Chapter 65\n## Chapter 66\n## Chapter 67\n## Chapter 68\n## Chapter 69\n## Chapter 70\n# Part V\n## Chapter 71\n## Chapter 72\n## Chapter 73\n## Chapter 74\n## Chapter 75\n## Chapter 76\n## Chapter 77\n## Chapter 78\n## Chapter 79\n## Chapter 80\n## Chapter 81\n## Chapter 82\n## Chapter 83\n## Chapter 84","[{\"question\":\"What warning does Kythaela give to the village of Sylrantheas?\",\"answer\":\"Kythaela tells everyone that “the worst is yet to come,” warning that even if a feared figure returns, the village must be ready for greater power and a greater war.\"},{\"question\":\"What happened during the Remnant battles five years earlier?\",\"answer\":\"Kythaela describes battles that defied reason and bewildered scholars, historians, and mages, involving magic without rules and people no one previously knew existed.\"},{\"question\":\"How does the story shift from the present to five years earlier?\",\"answer\":\"After the village narration, the text switches to “FIVE YEARS EARLIER,” introducing Phoenix monitoring Shock Crew and their preparations as children and crews rearrange tents and supplies to stay ahead of attacks.\"}]","The Stone Flame -
