Warned by Tembo the elephant to avoid Matope bog near the Buyu tree, Twiga rushes ahead when he feels hungry, gets trapped in mud, and cries for help. Tembo rescues him, and Twiga learns to follow wise judgment—listening to the wisdom of his heart rather than his stomach.","The Small Wisdom of the \nGiraffe \nEnglish \nThe Small Wisdom of the Giraffe \nEnglish \nCopyright © 2023, Wycliffe Bible Translators, Inc \n[http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4.0/](http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4.0/)[ ](http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4.0/)[You may not use this work for commercial purposes. There were so many interesting things to smell and so much to see! The brightly coloured butterflies among the grass... The sisimizi ants marching along the ground... The shiny beetles scurrying here, there and everywhere. Truly, life was exciting! \nTwiga also loved the little, juicy leaves that he could find on the small acacia trees and the whistling thorn bushes. What more could a giraffe want? Oh, before I forget, he also had a special friend called Nyani the monkey. \nOne hot day Twiga was walking along with Nyani sitting on his back.“What shall we do today, Nyani?” Twiga asked.“Let’s go down to the river,” suggested Nyani. \nTwiga was very excited, as he had never been to the river before. Tembo the elephant, the wisest animal in the forest, overheard them.“Yoh, little ones,” he said.“When you go to the river, be careful to stay away from Matope, the bog that is found below the Buyu tree.” Twiga and Nyani were so excited about going to the river that they hardly listened to the warning of Tembo the elephant. \nAt the river Twiga and Nyani splashed eachother and generally had fun, when Twiga started to feel hungry. He was looking around for some nice leaves, when he saw a bush with juicy leaves on it near the Buyu tree. Twiga ran straight over to the bush, but suddenly he found that his hooves were sinking in mud! Twiga had forgotten the warning of Tembo the elephant! Twiga tried to pull himself out of the mud, but as he struggled, he only sank in deeper. \n“Help! Help!” cried Twiga. Nyani was splashing so loudly in the water in the river that he couldn’t hear him. \n“Help! Help!” cried Twiga again, but still Nyani did not come. By this time Twiga had sunk into the mud right up to his stomach. \nSuddenly, there was a thundering and crashing sound as Tembo the elephant ran out of the bushes. As soon as he saw what had happened to Twiga, he stepped to the edge of Matope the bog and stretched out his trunk. He wrapped it around Twiga’s body and gently pulled him out of the bog. Twiga left the mud with a loud sucking noise: PLOP! \nWhen he was finally on firm ground again Twiga hung his head in shame.“I’m sorry, Tembo,” he whispered. Suddenly Nyani appeared.“Ooh! What happened to you, Twiga? You are all muddy and you smell!” Twiga shame-facedly told Nyani what had happened.“And Tembo came and pulled me out,” he concluded.“Sawa,” said Tembo.“Twiga, go and wash in the river and then I shall take you home. Behold, next time listen to the wisdom of your heart and not to the wisdom of your stomach.”","cbCaic0SkPNzcbAI","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaic0SkPNzcbAI","pdf",501494,16,"English","en",105,"# Twiga’s Forest Adventures\n## Meeting Nyani and Visiting the River\n## The Warning from Tembo\n## Trapped in the Matope Bog\n## Rescue and a Wise Lesson","[{\"question\":\"Who warns Twiga about the bog near the Buyu tree?\",\"answer\":\"Tembo the elephant warns Twiga and Nyani to stay away from Matope, the bog found below the Buyu tree.\"},{\"question\":\"Why does Twiga end up in trouble at the river?\",\"answer\":\"Twiga becomes hungry and runs to juicy leaves near the Buyu tree, forgetting Tembo’s warning about the bog.\"},{\"question\":\"How does Tembo help Twiga after he sinks into the mud?\",\"answer\":\"Tembo steps to the edge of Matope and uses his trunk to wrap around Twiga and gently pull him out.\"}]",1784316359,25,{"code":4,"msg":29,"data":30},"ok",{"site_id":23,"language":22,"slug":31,"title":13,"keywords":32,"description":14,"schema_data":33,"social_meta":85,"head_meta":87,"extra_data":89,"updated_unix":26},"the-small-wisdom-of-the-giraffe-story-of-twiga-at-the-river-lesson-in-listening","",{"@graph":34,"@context":84},[35,52,67],{"@type":36,"itemListElement":37},"BreadcrumbList",[38,42,46,49],{"item":39,"name":40,"@type":41,"position":11},"https://docshare.wps.com","Home","ListItem",{"item":43,"name":44,"@type":41,"position":45},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/","Document",2,{"item":47,"name":12,"@type":41,"position":48},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/story-novel/",3,{"item":50,"name":13,"@type":41,"position":51},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/the-small-wisdom-of-the-giraffe-story-of-twiga-at-the-river-lesson-in-listening/92431/",4,{"url":50,"name":13,"@type":53,"author":54,"headline":13,"publisher":56,"fileFormat":59,"inLanguage":22,"description":14,"dateModified":60,"datePublished":61,"encodingFormat":59,"isAccessibleForFree":62,"interactionStatistic":63},"DigitalDocument",{"name":9,"@type":55},"Person",{"url":39,"name":57,"@type":58},"DocShare","Organization","application/pdf","2026-07-22","2026-07-17",true,{"@type":64,"interactionType":65,"userInteractionCount":11},"InteractionCounter",{"@type":66},"ViewAction",{"@type":68,"mainEntity":69},"FAQPage",[70,76,80],{"name":71,"@type":72,"acceptedAnswer":73},"Who warns Twiga about the bog near the Buyu tree?","Question",{"text":74,"@type":75},"Tembo the elephant warns Twiga and Nyani to stay away from Matope, the bog found below the Buyu tree.","Answer",{"name":77,"@type":72,"acceptedAnswer":78},"Why does Twiga end up in trouble at the river?",{"text":79,"@type":75},"Twiga becomes hungry and runs to juicy leaves near the Buyu tree, forgetting Tembo’s warning about the bog.",{"name":81,"@type":72,"acceptedAnswer":82},"How does Tembo help Twiga after he sinks into the mud?",{"text":83,"@type":75},"Tembo steps to the edge of Matope and uses his trunk to wrap around Twiga and gently pull him out.","https://schema.org",{"og:url":50,"og:type":86,"og:title":13,"og:site_name":57,"og:description":14},"article",{"robots":88,"canonical":50},"index,follow",{"doc_id":7,"site_id":23},{"code":4,"msg":5,"data":91},[92,95,99,103,108,113,118,123,128,131,135],{"id":11,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":44,"category_name":12,"show_sort_weight":93,"slug":94},90,"story-novel",{"id":45,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":44,"category_name":96,"show_sort_weight":97,"slug":98},"Literature",80,"literature",{"id":51,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":44,"category_name":100,"show_sort_weight":101,"slug":102},"Exam",70,"exam",{"id":104,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":44,"category_name":105,"show_sort_weight":106,"slug":107},5,"Comic",60,"comic",{"id":109,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":44,"category_name":110,"show_sort_weight":111,"slug":112},6,"Technology",50,"technology",{"id":114,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":44,"category_name":115,"show_sort_weight":116,"slug":117},7,"Healthcare",40,"healthcare",{"id":119,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":44,"category_name":120,"show_sort_weight":121,"slug":122},8,"Research & Report",30,"research-report",{"id":124,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":44,"category_name":125,"show_sort_weight":126,"slug":127},9,"Religion & Spirituality",20,"religion-spirituality",{"id":126,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":44,"category_name":129,"show_sort_weight":126,"slug":130},"World Cup","world-cup",{"id":132,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":44,"category_name":133,"show_sort_weight":132,"slug":134},10,"Lifestyle","lifestyle",{"id":136,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":44,"category_name":137,"show_sort_weight":104,"slug":138},19,"General","general"]
