born-againchild of God appears in the Scriptures to be threefold:the sealing of the Spirit,the anointing of the Spirit andthe filling of the Spirit.  \nThe new birth itself is the creative act of the HolySpirit.The Lord Jesus taught,\"Except a man be bornof water and of the Spirit,he cannot enter into thekingdom of God,That which is born of the flesh isflesh;and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit\"(John 3:5,6).Apart from the regeneration of the HolySpirit we are dead in our trespasses and sins.Withthe life of God implanted within us we are God's chil-dren,babes in Christ at first,but to become maturesons and daughters of the Most High.  \nThe sealing of the Holy Spirit appears to be uponthe heart of the believer,his affections;the anointingis upon his head,his understanding;the filling for hishand,his service.This differentiation in the area ofthe ministry of the Spirit is indispensable for our un-derstanding and appreciating and appropriating thepresence of the Spirit in our life.  \nThe Scriptures speak of God as having \"sealed us\"and given us Ithe earnest of the Spirit in our hearts\"(2 Cor.1:22)。It is further stated that it is God whoalso hath given unto us the earnest of the Spirit (5:5).This teaching is elaborated in Ephesians 1 (verses 13and 14),which declares that the sealing,the earnestor guarantee of our inheritance,is upon the believeruntil the transaction is completed.We are \"sealed withthat holy Spirit of promise,which is the earnest of ourinheritance until the redemption of the purchasedpos-session,unto the praise of his glory.\"  \nThe metaphor of the seal is a familiar one.Sealsare used to authenticate a document,as by the seal ofthe notary public.They denote ownership and are usedto fasten a document so that it is available only to oneauthorized to open it,as in the case of the seven-sealed scroll of Revelation 5.The seal likewise isthe official sign of authority.In ancient times a highofficial was entrusted with the seal of the state byauthorization of its monarch,and in modern times thepresident of a college is often granted the seal of theinstitution upon his inauguration to office.All thesecharacteristics of the seal illustrate aspects of \"theearnestof our inheritance\"put upon our hearts by theHoly Spirit.  \nProperly speaking,a seal has two faces,the frontor obverse face and the rear or reverse.The GreatSeal of the United States has these two faces which areseen on a dollar bill.The reverse face on the left hasan unfinished pyramid and the Latin inscription speak-ing of a new order of the ages.The obverseface on the  \nright is morefamiliar,the eagle with outspread wingsand a shield.  \nThe sealing of the Spirit is likewise twofold,andis spelled out in Second Timothy 2:19:\"Neverthelessthe foundation of God standeth sure,having this seal,The Lord knoweth them that are his.And,let everyone that nameth the name of Christ depart from ini-quity.\"On the one face there is assurance of faith inChrist ('The Lord knoweth them that are his\")and onthe other there is aversion to sin('Let every one thatnameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity'').Inother words,we believe on Christ as Saviour and webehave like Christians.  \nBy the Holy Spirit there is the assurance of salva-tion because He is the Spirit of Iwisdom and under-standing,the spirit of counsel and might,the spirit ofknowledge and of the fear of the Lord\"(Isa.11:2).Weknow beyond the shadow of any doubt that Christ liveswithin \"by the Spirit which he hath given us\"(1 John  \n3:24).The Scripture adds:\"Hereby
