Its petals, crimson as fire seemed to whisper of passion and fate. Lily, a young beauty of the village bore the same name. Her laughter was contagious, her eyes bright like a sun set. She lived simply by weaving mats, singing and dreaming of a life untouched by war. Yet destiny had already chosen her path.  \nIn the spring of 1942, when the world was torn apart by war, American planes roared above and soldiers landed on Wallis to prepare for battles yet to come. Among them was David, a young soldier from Ohio carrying maps and orders but also a restless heart. One afternoon while scouting the village, he saw her.  \nLily dancing and singing by the beach.  \nTheir eyes met and the world seemed to pause.  \nDavid tried to speak :  \n— \"Hello…you… beautiful\" His accent was heavy, his words broken. Lily laughed, covering her mouth.  \n— \"Malo…mo koe…tupulaga\" She teased, mimicking his tone.  \nThey both laughed, the sound echoing like bells. Though they could not speak the same tongue, they understood something deeper. It was the beginning of a story neither had expected. David returned often, sometimes with supplies sometimes with excuses. He brought chocolate bars, strange treasures from America and Lily offered him coconutsand songs.  \nThey taught each other words.  \n— \"Sky\" David said pointing upward.  \n— \"Lagi\" Lily corrected smiling.  \n— \"Heart\" he said pressing his chest.  \n— \"Mafu\" she whispered touching hers.  \nOne evening, David drew a heart in the sand.  \n— \"This…you and me\"Lily touched it gently.  \n— \"Forever\" she said, testing the English word. Their friendship grew into something more, a bridge built not of language but of laughter, gestures and shared silences. By 1943, their bond had deepened. They walked beneath palm trees, kissed under the stars and whispered promises. David wrote poems for her, his handwriting clumsy but heartfelt.  \nOne night, he read aloud :  \nThe sea may rage, the guns may roar, But still I dream of island shore.  \nYour voice, your smile, my guiding flame, No war can steal, no death can claim.  \nLily did not understand every word but she felt the rhythm, the devotion.
