Millions of students take the test each year as a step on their path to college and career, more than anyother admissions test. The SAT can help students stand out on their college applications—including those that are test optional. Colleges also use scores to inform decisions on course placement, scholarships, and targeted support on campus. \nHere’s what students can expect on the SAT: \nAdaptive Testing \nIn an adaptive test model, the test delivery system adjusts the difficulty of the questions given to students during the test based on the performance of individual test takers. Adaptive testing allows for a much shorter, but just as reliable, assessment that delivers accurate scores more efficiently. \nEveryday Words \nThe test’s vocabulary focuses on words that students will encounter often in college-level classes. They won’t need to memorize a lot of rarely used words. \n Essential Math \nThe SAT tests the math that students need no matter what major or career they choose. Common math formulas are provided, so there’s no need to memorize them. \nNo Separate Science Section \nThe science skills needed for college are tested in the context of the reading passages. \n Help Clear Their Path to College Overview for U.S. Counselors 2 \nOfficial SAT Practice \nPreparing for the SAT has never been easier. First, students can download and install Bluebook™, our testing app. Once they open the app, they can access test previews to see real test questions and try out the testing tools. Then, they can move on to take full-length, adaptive practice tests using the same interface, format, and scoring as the SAT. After they’ve taken a practice test, they can sign in to [mypractice.collegeboard.org](mypractice.collegeboard.org) to view their score results and review the practice items, answers, and explanations. \nIn partnership with College Board, Khan Academy® has built an SAT course that includes videos, articles, and worked examples designed to help students understand and experience the SAT. Students can [go to](go to khanacademy.org/test-prep/digital-sat)[ khanacademy.org/test-prep/digital-sat](go to khanacademy.org/test-prep/digital-sat) for additional test prep resources. \nStudents approved for assistive technology–compatible (ATC) test formats can practice for and test with digital exams using the format they need. In addition, nonadaptive paper practice tests are available for download. \nLearn more [at](at satsuite.collegeboard.org/practice)[ satsuite.collegeboard.org/practice](at satsuite.collegeboard.org/practice). \nCollege and Career Planning Tools \nThe SAT connects students to these additional, free resources: \ny Student Search Service™ connects students to 1,500 colleges and universities and over $300 million in annual scholarships.
